Friday 5th September 2025

Dear Families,

A very warm welcome back to all our children and families, and a particularly warm welcome to the new families who have joined us. It has been wonderful to see the children settling so well into their learning, activities, and routines this week, and we are really excited about the year ahead.

The week began with two busy INSET days for all staff, packed with training and discussion. These included valuable team-building activities, reflection on our roles as education professionals, and an introduction to the Thrive Approach, led by our Trust Inclusion Lead, Kelsey Clarke-Davies. The Thrive Approach underpins our relational approach to behaviour management. It is a trauma-sensitive, developmental programme designed to meet the social and emotional needs of children and young people, promoting emotional resilience and supporting learning. We are looking forward to further training in the weeks ahead.

Over the past few days, all classes have been reading We Are All Born Free, a beautifully illustrated, child-friendly adaptation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each class has explored one of the articles and produced artwork linked to it. The book provides an excellent springboard for discussions about rights and responsibilities—an important strand of our PSHE curriculum that we are developing this year. More on this soon.

In today’s assembly, it was wonderful to celebrate some of the children who have excelled in demonstrating our core values. (See picture below.)

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Lost property: ensure all personal items that the children bring into school are clearly labelled so that we can return them in case they get lost. Lost property items are currently being left on the shelves to the left of the office.

Snacks: children in KS1 and KS2 are encouraged to bring in a snack for breaktime. Ensure that all snacks are healthy, use minimal packaging and don't contain nuts or sesame seeds.

What's been happening in school

{item_alt_tag}

The children have settled in positively to Year 1. They have been engaged, excited and curious about their new classrooms. The photos capture the classroom as well as the children in the environment! Mr Tom, who taught the current Zaha Hadid Class, came to spy on us in the afternoon and found out our favourite things of the day.

A stand out was the outdoor area...Emily "I loved playing in the big playground."

Year 4 have been busy writing their own Back to School haikus. They learnt that a haiku follows a special pattern of three lines, with a 5-7-5 syllable structure, and then had a go at creating their own. They used nouns and adjectives to describe how they felt about being back at Judith Kerr. The children enjoyed experimenting with syllables and words in the first week back!

SEND Update

Recruitment We are continuing the recruitment process for a new SENDCo over the next weeks. Until we have appointed a new SENDCo, please continue to address any concerns to your child's class teacher (at first point of call), then to a member of the leadership team. Our Trust Head of Inclusion and SEND, Kelsey Clark-Davies, is also providing us with regular support.

Sensory Room  We are incredibly excitied to be adding the final adjustments to our Sensory Room and once it is ready, will be devising a timetable to ensure the best usage.

Attendance
