Friday 3rd October 2025

Dear Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our parent/carer teacher sessions this week. These sessions are incredibly valuable support for your children's education, and we are hugely grateful for your engagement. If you weren't able to attend, please do arrange an alternative time with your child's class teacher.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Reminder: As part of our work with the community to help positively change the way people think, feel and act around race, click here for an invitation from @Embrace to our Amplifying Voices focus group sessions to be held at 7pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, 9th October.  The sessions are for global majority black and brown parents and carers in our school community and are an opportunity for honest discussion around race-related topics. Register your interest in attending here.

On Tuesday we are looking forward to the first of our assemblies led by our anti-racism partner, @Embrace - Understanding our differences. Assemblies will be held for EY and KS1 in the morning and KS2 in the afternoon.

And now for some very wonderful news... massive congratulations to Ms Natalie who got married last weekend. We wish you and Jamie every little bit of happiness in your future lives together! With love from all the JKPS team

To celebrate positive mental health, next Friday 10th October we will wear YELLOW!

Please encourage your child to come to school wearing something yellow. We will be collecting £1 donations to go towards mental health resources.

Here are some of our super stars in Reception and Year 1 this week. They are all role models for our values - keep on shining!

And not forgetting Robin in Nursery  - not photographed but also a sparkling star!

A reminder to parents and carers to be careful on your walk/cycle/journey to school.

It's important to be present and sadly there has been some phone thefts in the area so best advice is to put your phone away while walking.

Black History Month

October marks Black History Month (BHM) in the UK.

It gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture. People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have been a fundamental part of British history for centuries. However, their contribution to society has often been overlooked or distorted.

We have discussed the importance of BHM in assembly today, and over the next weeks classes will be celebrating the importance of Black History in the UK and across the globe, exploring what it means to be Black and British. and discussing the impact of key people in Black History.

We are also looking forward to Year 4's assembly in two weeks, where they will be sharing learning from their Brixton topic: helping us better understand the importance of Black History in our local area and community.

There are a host of activities linked to BHM to explore in our local area. Visit the Lambeth and Southwark websites for events local to you.

ECO SCHOOL SERVES FREE FAIRTRADE TEA

Eco School inspired by Fairtrade Fortnight decided to do mini presentations in their class about Fairtrade Tea! We then served FREE Fairtrade Tea to parents, carers and staff. A big thanks to Eco School and our wonderful parent helpers Anna and Jane - we managed to serve lots of Fairtrade Tea. We even got some donations.  Let's hope it will inspire us all to buy more ethical, fairtrade products!

What's happening in school

This week year 2 have visited Dulwich Picture Gallery to take part in the Mark Makers workshop, with mindfulness and wellbeing at its heart. They created some beautiful artwork using a range of creative techniques inspired by artwork in the gallery and when listening to music.

Thank you again to all our helpers.

SEND Update

I am delighted to let you know that last week we appointed a new SENDCo and we are hoping for her to start with us by the end of October. As soon as her on-boarding is complete, I will organise a time to introduce you formally , most likely early in November. I can assure you that she will be coming with a wealth of experience  both as a SENDCo and class practitioner, and has a strong vision for developing inclusion further at JKPS. and I am sure that she will be a real asset to the team. In the meantime, please continue to address any concerns or queries to a member of SLT.

Reminder: SEND Coffee morning - 9am -9:45am Wednesday 8th October

We are delighted to let you know that Mabina Zinga, our Southwark SEND link, will be delivering a SEND Coffee morning on the above date. She will be discussing some of the processes and procedures for supporting children with SEND across the borough. All welcome.
