 Friday 24th April 2026

Dear Families,

This week we marked Earth Day, and never has it felt more important to look after our planet. Throughout the week, the children have been learning about how we can care for the world around us and what it means to be responsible citizens, helping to build a more sustainable future for everyone.

There are lots of key dates coming up this term, including performances from each of the year groups. Do check the dates at the end of the newsletter so you can save any key dates.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Grow a sunflower for Dulwich this summer

The Dulwich Society is inviting residents across East Dulwich, West Dulwich, North Dulwich and Dulwich Village to grow a sunflower this summer.

Sunflowers are easy to grow and suitable for gardens, pots or balconies. Free sunflower seeds will be available on Saturday 25 April, between 10:00 and 13:00, from four distribution points across Dulwich:

  • East Dulwich — Ben Oakley Gallery, 20 North Cross Road
  • West Dulwich — just outside The Dulwich Trader
  • North Dulwich — West 16th Café, Half Moon Lane
  • Dulwich Village — Dulwich Square

Why not plant a sunflower at home this summer and help bring a little extra sunshine to Dulwich?

Staffing News

German Team - this week we have welcomed Mr Manfred back to support with German teaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mr Manfred is well acquainted with JKPS and will be with us through to the end of the summer term.

SENDCo - Ms Sheila joined us at the start of this week as Acting SENDCo and will be supporting the school’s SEND provision throughout the summer term. Over the coming weeks, she will begin introducing herself to families, and we will also arrange a coffee morning towards the end of term to provide an opportunity to meet her in person.

In the meantime, please continue to direct any SEND queries or concerns through your child’s phase leader.

New Feature - Spot the Maths Mistake

Making mistakes in maths is a valuable part of learning. For this week the focus is for EYFS children.

Can you spot Ms Ellie’s marvellous maths mistake? Let her know where she has gone wrong, by creating a poster, writing a letter or even creating a video! Give your responses to your class teacher and look out for Ms Ellie’s favourites in next week’s newsletter.

What's happening in school

On Wednesday this week it was Earth Day!

In Reception and Nursery, children made and painted their own planet Earths. They learnt and talked about how important it is to look after our planet. We only have one Earth so we need to look after it as we best we can for the future.

Nursery also made these rather wonderful St George's

Representatives from Year 3 to Year 6 visited Southwark Recycling Centre. We learnt the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing waste. We saw firsthand the incredible amount of work that goes into sorting out recycling. There were machines, dedicated staff and AI Robots helping with the sorting.

In Year 4 RE this week, we continued exploring how different religions show commitment. We learned about the ways Hindus demonstrate dedication through their beliefs and traditions. We also looked closely at what happens during a Hindu wedding. They then designed their own detailed henna patterns.

Did you know? In Hindu weddings, the bride’s Mehndi designs often include the groom’s initials hidden within the pattern for him to find!

Year 4 continued their wonderful learning about sound this week by conducting another experiment. They stood 1m apart and kept moving apart until they couldn't hear each other any more. This provide to them that sound waves disperse over larger distances.
