 Friday 1st May 2026

Dear Families,

Further to David Hatchett's letter earlier in the week, I would like to begin by extending a very warm personal welcome to Ms Laura Green, who will be joining the JKPS community in September. Next week, we will be holding our Head of School interviews as we continue to develop our leadership team for September.

It has been another week full of learning and enrichment across the school, with sound workshops in Year 4, bike maintenance in Year 5, and a focus on Greek traditions in Year 1 and Nursery. Please see below for more highlights from the week.

Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Bikes and Scooters: for the safety of all our families, please ensure you do not ride bikes through the playground. In assembly today, children are also being reminded not to ride bikes or scooters through the playground.

Goethe Tests for Year 6
There will be a meeting for Year 6 parents and carers at 9:00am on Friday 8th May. This will be an opportunity to find out more about the Goethe Tests, which we anticipate most Year 6 children will sit on Friday 19th June.

Spot the Maths Mistake

Making mistakes in maths is a valuable part of learning. For this week the focus is for EYFS children.

Can you spot Ms Ellie’s marvellous maths mistake? Let her know where she has gone wrong, by creating a poster, writing a letter or even creating a video! Give your responses to your class teacher and look out for Ms Ellie’s favourites in next week’s newsletter.

What's happening in school

Year 4 have thrown themselves into their Science learning this week and have had a bumper few days packed full of experiments and exciting visits.

On Tuesday, they enjoyed a visit from Dan at the School of Noise, taking part in an interactive workshop where they explored different ways sound can be created and used. This included experimenting with a theremin, making music using fruit, and even creating art using sound frequencies and sand.

Back in the classroom, both classes made string telephones during their Science lessons and investigated whether the length of the string affected the clarity of the sound.

To round off the week, we welcomed Alice’s dad, who shared how his work in radio is directly linked to sound. Alice also impressed everyone with a fantastic presentation about music and sound through time.

Be sure to ask a Year 4 child how sound is made they’re experts now!
