 Friday 5th June 2026

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Summer 2.

As the world builds excitement ahead of the FIFA World Cup, here at JKPS we are gearing up for one of the highlights of our year — our annual Summer Sports Day. This will take place at Griffin Sports Ground next Thursday, 11th June, with events beginning from 10am. We would love to see as many of you there as possible to cheer the children on and join in the fun. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have already volunteered their time to support the day.

It was a pleasure today to welcome our local MP, Helen Hayes, alongside Oci from Let’s Go Zero. You can read more about their visit below.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

We had a wonderful day in the garden on the last Gardening Day, having achieved lots of weeding, mowing, trimming, tidying, watering, wood-chipping and feeding the dead hedge in the forest.

And the kids loved their activity of taking mature seeds from Hellebore plants and sowing them out again, with everyone taking a little plant pot home. 🪴

What's been happening in school

The children in Year 2 have recently taken part in their RSHE lessons, where they have been learning about the NSPCC PANTS rules and how to keep themselves safe. As part of this, they discussed each of the rules and explored the accompanying song, which reinforces the important message that “your body belongs to you.”

For more information about the NSPCC Pantosaurus PANTS rules, including helpful guides and resources for families, please visit:

Helen Hayes MP Visits JKPS

We were delighted to welcome our local MP, Helen Hayes, along with Oci from Let’s Go Zero, on Friday 5th June.

Helen and Oci led engaging sustainability workshops with Year 5 and enjoyed a  tour of our outdoor spaces with the Eco School team. They also had the opportunity to meet Celeste, Jane and Gaby—our inspiring parent advocates for road safety and active travel.

Helen was incredibly impressed by all that JKPS has achieved in promoting a greener, more sustainable approach.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the visit, and a special shout-out to Ms Natalie and her fantastic Eco Council for their ongoing work in raising environmental awareness and helping us all become that little bit greener.

ECO SALE

Eco School, Little Sprouts Club and Zaha Hadid have been busy over the last couple of weeks creating pebbles, growing plants and decorating plant pots! They sold their incredible eco-themed items to parents and carers. All donations will be used towards creating an Eco Pack for every class - such as litter pickers, plant funds, watering cans and eco-art materials.

Art and Music - Year 1 learnt about Kandisky and how he often painted to music...

Inspired by him, Year 1 listened to the song, One Moment, and used oil pastels to create abstract pieces of art...

We discussed how it made us feel to join music and art together... 'It made me feel happy as I could see how creative I was being' Dheeraj

In other news – have you heard of the Cactus Clan project?

A huge shout-out to Ms Pippa and her Young CEOs Club! Some of the boys have been completely inspired and have thrown themselves into the Cactus Clan project over the break with remarkable energy and focus.

Starting with their own ideas, drawings and characters, they’ve worked collaboratively to create a set of trading cards, a digital download and even a website featuring eight mini-games. Sonny and Leo worked closely character design, artwork and card production, while Felix collaborated to use AI to develop online games. Impressively, siblings have also played a key role as dedicated testers!

You’ll be able to meet them at the JKPS Summer Festival, where they will have a stall to showcase and sell their creations, as well as promote the website. Please do go along to support them – it’s a fantastic example of creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit in action.

Friends Corner

Welcome back, we hope everyone had a relaxing half-term break - and not too hot!

The topographical survey of the outside space took place over the Half Term break - this will allow further development of the feasibility plans for the development of the outside space. Working towards further discussion and fine-tuning of the proposal for a MUGA with the SLT, Anthem, the Dulwich Estate, and Southwark Council.

We are also heading into the busiest half-term of the year, with the JKPS Summer Festival, Sports Day, school trips, year group camping and a Fun Day. All if this takes organisation - and parent volunteers are a vital part of that.

Thank you to everyone who is already helping, if every family can plan to help with at least one event: many hands do make light work.

The JKPS Summer Festival is round the corner!

Date: Saturday 13th June, 1pm-5pm

We’re looking forward to coming together and sharing delicious food, music and games with you all, lots planned.

SPORTS DAY!

Sports Day will be held on 11 June 2026, from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm. We are looking for approximately 20 parent volunteers to help the day run smoothly. Ideally, having 2- 3 volunteers per year group would be a fantastic support for the students.

Please email FoJKPS@gmail.com if you can help. Many employers offer volunteering days for such things.

Thank you in advance for your help in making this a memorable day for the children.

GARDENING DAYS

We have two more gardening days planned for the term. Everyone is welcome and even half an hour helps maintain our lovely and nature friendly green space.

On 12 July we're particularly welcoming incoming Reception parents and those transitioning to Year 1 (and so using the bigger outside area). This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to know the space better and feel comfortable.
