Dear Families,
Well done to all our Year 6 pupils who attended the Goethe-Institut today to take their A1 or A2 language tests—Viel Glück! This is a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our German teaching team throughout their time at JKPS.
What a spectacular Summer Festival we enjoyed last Saturday. Thank you to our wonderful community—especially the organisers and volunteers—for coming together to create such a fabulous and memorable afternoon. Thank you also to everyone who attended and helped make it so special.
Despite the heat, the top floor hall was alive this morning with the beautiful singing of our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Thank you to Mr Aiden and all who supported the children in preparing such a fantastic KS1 singing showcase. This followed a brilliant Reception Fashion Show earlier in the week where some of our youngest children entertained us with brilliant singing.
Schönes Wochenende!
Patrick

The World Cup came to Kennington this week, and a mixed team of Year 5 boys and girls delivered an incredible performance, proudly representing Portugal at a Year 5 World Cup Football Tournament.
Competing against ten other schools from Westminster, Lambeth and Southwark, our team was one of only two mixed teams taking part.
Despite having had little time to prepare and never playing together before, the team rose brilliantly to the challenge, showing exceptional teamwork, determination and resilience to reach the final and secure an impressive runners-up place.
We are hugely grateful to the parents and staff whose commitment made this opportunity possible, and incredibly proud that the team’s success even attracted BBC and ITV coverage, with the school receiving a special mention.
A special congratulations to Leon Raido, recognised as the tournament’s second-best player — a fantastic achievement. Well done to all the children for representing the school with such pride and distinction.

In more football news, the boys’ team have concluded their season in Division A of the Lambeth and Southwark Primary Schools League. A mid-table finish at this level—alongside a rare victory over local rivals Rosendale—is a real achievement and something to be proud of.
With many players in Year 6, this opens up exciting opportunities for our current Year 4 and 5 pupils to step up next term.

A message from Ms Laura, our in-coming Executive Headteacher

Dear families,
I hope you are all well.
I wanted to provide a quick update and let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Summer Festival last weekend and wanted to thank everyone involved in making it such a lovely event. It was wonderful to bring my own family and friends to see our community and families enjoying the afternoon and celebrating together. A particular highlight for me was watching Mr Patrick’s performance - not only a great head, but a fabulous musician too!
This week, I have enjoyed spending two days on site this week meeting with staff members, learning more about the school and attending the ACC meeting. Each visit reinforces what a warm and special community Judith Kerr is, and I am grateful for how welcoming everyone has been.
I am very much looking forward to continuing to work alongside the team over the coming weeks as we prepare for September and ensure we are well set up for a successful start to the new academic year.
Hope to see you on the gates soon!

Year One and Year Two Wowed us with their talented singing this morning.
They sang SIX songs including a German song all about the importance of bees to a Pink top hit, Cover me in sunshine.
The children certainly brought talent, enthusiasm and kindness to the room. They did fantastically even in a very hot hall! Beautiful singing, well done!
A big thank you to Mr Aiden for leading us, Key Stage One Staff Team for all their practices and enthusiasm. Thank you as well to Ms Krysia for her talented props!

Today, Year 4 enjoyed a visit to Sunray Gardens, where they met Paul, who taught them all about the trees in our local area. The children learned how to estimate the age of a tree, discovered the important role trees play in supporting local wildlife and the environment, and explored how to identify signs of disease in trees. This links to their Outdoor Learning Science unit.

We are learning about Monarchy in Year 1. This week we learnt about the Bayeux Tapestry and how Tapestries told us about what happened in history. Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, Year 1 reflected on their year and what they loved most...We created the Year 1 Tapestry!

Another week and another thank you to all the volunteers who made a memorable Summer Festival. It was a day filled with laughter, summer vibes and a lot of joy. We hope everyone sampled the global flavors, got down to the music and got involved with the games.
Special congratulations
to Violet the winner of the Mog Chronicle Bake-Off. We look forward to reading her interview in the Mog Chronicle: https://mogchronicle.com/
We are into the busiest half term of the year with more school trips, year group camping, JKPS Got Talent and a Fun Day to come. All if this takes organisation - and parent volunteers are a vital part of that.
If every family can help with at least one event: many hands do make light work.
🌵 Cactus Clan Drop 🌵
Following the huge popularity of the Cactus Clan at the Summer Festival - we have a limited edition drop to support the Friends. Move fast or miss out: https://wwww.fojkps.org/shop
Thank you to the young entrepreneurs (and parents) for supporting the Friends of JKPS.
🐅 Tiger Merch 🐅
In Spring 2025 the children contributed to a special collaborative art project. Each pupil then in school created their own unique patterned square, which has been brought together to form a striking pixelated tiger inspired by the beloved character from Judith Kerr’s classic story, The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
To help raise the final funds needed for the Artwork to celebrate 10 years of JKPS, we are offering a selection of special keepsakes inspired by the mosaic. By purchasing an item, you'll not only be supporting the project, but you'll also own a lasting piece of JKPS history and a celebration of our children's creativity.
Get yours at the FoJKPS Shop: https://wwww.fojkps.org/shop
