Dear Families,
What a brilliant event The Masked Teacher was last night! A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise it, everyone who came along to watch, and of course to my wonderfully talented fellow performers. And how fitting that Mr Manfred and Ms Sabine’s rendition of Neunundneunzig Luftballons captured the winning vote!
The event rounded off a fantastic week of performances across the school. Highlights included our Summer Rocksteady concerts, held outdoors in true festival style, and Year 3’s fabulous Rocking Romans production. These memorable experiences provide such important opportunities for every child to shine, build confidence and share their talents with our school community.

They have made such a BIG, lasting impact! Bringing such positive changes to JKPS and its community. From wellbeing pamphlets, to introducing calm boxes, to more litter picking, to campaigning about road safety.

What's been happening in school

The Big Anthem Literacy Quiz brought together a team of KS2 pupils to put their reading knowledge to the test. Working collaboratively, they answered questions based on the texts they have read throughout the academic year. The team showed excellent teamwork, discussing ideas, sharing their thoughts, and bouncing answers off one another to reach the best responses. Their enthusiasm, confidence, and cooperation were fantastic to see. Well done, Team Judith Kerr, on representing us so brilliantly!

There was more Bikeability for our Year 5's - progressing from Level 1 to Level 2 and getting out on the road.
|
|
Year 5 have also been learning about how to create earthquake-proof buildings.
|
|
|
It has been a bumper week for Year 4! First on Monday, Caspar's mum Cornelia spoke to the children about gardening. The children looked at how compost is made (thanks to the help of worms) the composition of soil and then planted a cucumber seed.
On Tuesday, they visited the South London Botanical Institute where the children looked at the parts of a plant under a microscope, smelt and touched some amazing herbs, spices and flowers and explored the garden where they observed everything from a kiwi tree to deadly nightshade!

Year 3 took us on a spectacular journey through history with their performance of the Rocking Romans!
|

|
How amazing our RockSteadiers were this week. They looked incredible up on stage and wowed us with how much they have grown in themselves, as musicians and as performers. Thank you so much to the ever-inspiring band leader Jem who has been instrumental (excuse the pun!) on this journey.

Eco News! Thanks to Celeste, Gaby and Jane (as well as Eco Reps and keen Judith Kerr Eco focused children) they raised awareness about road safety. There will now be changes on Half Moon Lane Holmdene Avenue to support better road safety.

Request for Lego Donations!
Our very creative children have been busy at lunch time this week making wonderful creations out of lego; using language and sharing ideas - here are just a few to showcase their skills!
If any families have any old or unwanted lego sets we would welcome all lego donations to expand the selection of bricks.

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Kids do better when their parents and carers are involved in their school - and JKPS kids have that in spades. Thank you to everyone who has lifted, shifted, served, booked or cheered over the last few weeks.
Autumn term isn't quite as busy but has its fair share of events - dates are already in the diary (see below).
At the start of the year the much relied upon SignUp Zone changed - and became far less useful for what FoJKPS needs. We have been trying different options - we appreciate your tolerance of this. We hope in PTA events we have found a solution that works.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped put on the end of year extravaganza that is the Masked Teacher and say good bye to Mr Patrick. We are full of joy after an evening of fun. We are delighted to have raised around £3k for an outside stage in the Green Space.

Wurst, bier, music and fun times - the Uk's biggest family friendly Oktoberfest is back. The banner is up, and we are delighted to launch Oktoberfest 2026.
Please save the date and invite friends and family. We ask every family in the school to make at least one contribution and know that many do more.

Gardening Day - 12th July
Everyone is welcome, but we're particularly welcoming incoming Reception parents and those transitioning to Year 1 (and so using the bigger outside area). This is a great opportunity for the kids to get to know the space better and feel comfortable. Even half an hour makes a difference.

To help raise the final funds needed for the Artwork to celebrate 10 years of JKPS, we are offering merch inspired by the mosaic. By purchasing an item, you'll not only be supporting the project, but you'll also own a lasting piece of JKPS history and a celebration of our children's creativity. Note: the artwork was completed in Spring 2025.
