30th June 2023

Dear Families,

Happy Friday - thank you so much to all those who supported our Rainbow Day. Well done to Year 6 for such entrepreneurship - from creating, to marketing and to selling your rainbow products.  All money raised will go buying more inclusive books for our library.

Strike Days

July the 5th and 7th are the planned  NEU strike days. As you will be aware, teachers are not required to inform us beforehand, if they are striking or not.

There is a plan by the NEU members to create a picket line, so based on the previous time this happened, we will be closing the following classes: Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 and there will be no wrap around care.  If staff we expect to be on strike choose not to strike on the day, we may be able to open more classes, and we will contact you accordingly.

Year 6 will be going a trip to the Goethe Institute, but school will not be able to accommodate those who are not attending.

Because of the strike days we will be moving Year 5's production for families to Tuesday 4th of July at 2.30pm - we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Farewell

It is with heavy heart that I need to share with you that Nemiah (the most amazing music teacher in the world) will be leaving us at the end of this academic year. It goes without saying that we have been blessed to have had her as our music teacher and what joy she has brought to our community over the last seven years. The school is thinking hard about how to thank her for such amazing dedication.

Please read Nemiah's message below:

To everyone in our wonderful JKPS community,

It is with a heavy heart I’m sharing the news with you that due to family circumstances, I will be leaving Judith Kerr at the end of the Summer term.

Over my time at JKPS I have sought to encourage a love of music and music-making. However, the reality is, that your amazingly creative children are the ones that have inspired me! What a privilege it is to work with them!

Thank you to all of you and the fantastic staff team for your support with all things music. It has been a joy to be part of the JKPS community over the course of 7 years and sharing a love of music together. There are so many joyful memories that will make me smile for many years to come!

In terms of the future, I hand over the baton to Southwark Music Service who I know do fantastic things and so the Music provision at JKPS will be in good hands.

May there always be a song in your heart and music for your soul.

With all my best wishes,

Ms Nemiah x

RSE Workshop

As a part of your child’s education, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. PSHE education is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

On the week commencing the 10th of July,  Years 1-5 (Year 6 will happen the week before as they are on residential) will be taking part in lessons which will focus on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme.

Please look at the overview below which shows what each Year group will be covering: healthy relationships, including friendships; families; growing and changing, including puberty; personal hygiene; changing feelings; becoming more independent; keeping safe; developing self-esteem and confidence.

Pupils will also have opportunities to ask questions. PSHE education is taught throughout the school in every year group and is monitored and reviewed regularly by the staff and governing body.

Please click the links below for more detail about our PSHE curriculum. All PSHE teaching takes place will take place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school ethos and values.

If you have any questions, see the resources we use  or would like to learn more. Please come to  the RSE workshop on Thursday 6th July at 9am in the bottom hall.
