14th July 2023

Dear Families,

Happy Friday - Can you believe only one week left and a very busy week. Your child should have received their school report today. If you have any queries about this or your child's education, please come to our drop-ins after school on Monday to meet with your child's class teacher.

Wrap Around Care

Information about wrap round care will be sent out next week; this will have the information about when you can book although this will not be until the beginning of the new academic year as we will need to move all children up to their new year group first.

Thank you to all parents who have settled their Magicbooking account balance. Despite numerous reminders we still have a significant amount of money outstanding. Can you please ensure you log on Magicbooking and settle your balance; parents who have not settled their account in full will not be able to book any clubs/childcare next term. Any childcare vouchers/tax free payments sent after this week will be credited in September 2023 when the school re opens after the summer holiday.

*Safeguarding Notice* - whilst we are happy for you to take photographs of your children during school events and performances, please do not circulate any pictures or videos on social media platforms, including school WhatsApp groups. Thank you for your understanding.

Whole School Theatre Visit Mog The Forgetful Cat Theatre Trip — Friends of Judith Kerr Primary School

On Monday all children, staff and a mass of volunteers will be going to watch Mog at the Old Vic Theatre. This is obviously a logistical feat to get everybody there safely and on time. Below is the itinerary of the day. Please can you ensure that your child brings a healthy nut-free pack lunch and bottle of water. Thank you for those who have purchased their child's tickets. We are still short by £400 so if you would like to donate some money to help cover this cost, this would be warmly appreciated: https://www.fojkps.org/buynow/mog-the-forgetful-cat-theatre-trip

If you have not given your child's permission this MUST be done Friday.

auf Wiedersehen

Amy, our fanatic LGB Chair, has reached the end of her tenure and she is stepping down from her role at the end of this term.

I personally would like to thank Amy for all the hard work she has done for the school: including helping me on my journey in becoming a headteacher. Amy has been with the school from the very beginning, when she, like many other 'founding parents', took the plunge and chose to send her children to this free school ten years ago with a notion of bilingual eduction but no idea of the journey they were embarking upon.  She has been instrumental in supporting the school on this journey to what it is today; without her support and challenge the school would not be where it is today.

So if you see her, please thank her for her hard work and dedication and ask her what it was like in the beginning. We now look forward to working with her successor, Axel Maier, a former parent of the school and existing local governor who will take up the new post as chair.

It's that time of year when we say farewells to our lovely staff who are leaving for new pastures.

Ms Anna in Reception is off to teach in the very sunny and hot climate of Spain, Ms Keri in Year 1 is off with a promotion to another school, Ms Olivia in Year 2 is off to Singapore and Ms Sarah in Year 2 is off to another school in East London.

We also say goodbye to Ms Lysette, Mr Tom and Mr Shamyl, and we wish them all the best with their new endeavours.

On Monday we will send the list of new classes and introduce the new staff in next week's newsletter.

Reception Fashion Show

Judith Kerr held its first ever fashion show this year- it was a smash hit with the models and the audience. Well done to EYFS for creating their couture outfits and expressing themselves in them so well!

Year 4 If Beowulf Had Met The Beatles

Well done to Year Four for a romp into a land where the Beatles meet Beowulf.  A simply amazing production full of heroism, horror and... love. #allyouneedislove

Year 3 Trip

Y3 stepped back in time on Wednesday, visiting the amazing Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire. They were transported back to what life would have been like millions of years ago. The children had a fabulous time partaking in activities such as Archaelogical excavation, uncovering fascinating objects. They learnt jewellery techniques, manipulating metal wire with pliers and also partook in chalk carving. They were able to bring back the goodies that they created. Y3 had a brilliant time, thank you to all those that helped on the trip!

Year 6 had an amazing time on residential.

Archery, fire building, crate stacking and more!

Please look at our Trip Diary which is attached to the email to find out exactly what they got up to.

If you want to join the planning committee please contact Laurie and Shivali directly at Laurie.sanderson@gmail.com or shivalishah@aol.com. Please save the date, invite your friends, and get ready to bake some Streuselkuchen, pour some Hefeweizen, and serve up a few (hundred) wursts.

Haven’t made it to Oktoberfest before? It’s a family-friendly event with local beers, games for kids, music and entertainment in a garden setting. Delicious food including German/London fusion, authentic German wurst, vegan options, coffee, homemade cakes and much more. SE London meets German Biergarten! FREE ENTRY

Sponsorship for Oktoberfest - The 2023 Herne Hill Oktoberfest, in support of the FoJKPS, is rolling ahead and we are quickly getting ready for the big event on Saturday 23 September.  If you have joined us in the past you know this is the biggest fundraising event we do as a school community, and very successful, raising much-needed funds for daily classroom needs and special enrichment activities.  Local businesses are asking to sponsor the event this year, and we wanted to give the parent community an opportunity to do the same.
If you work with or run a local business, and would like to get involved we have several different levels of sponsorship available listed below.  We are also flexible on sponsor benefits, so if you have an idea beyond what's already in place, please get in touch.

Homerun

Amazing news - JKPS have won £1000 in the Homerun School Run Fun competition! Thank you to all who entered - and congratulations to those who have won individual prizes.

You may also have spotted our new “parking buddies” on Half Moon Lane and Village Way.

{alt_tag}

They are helping to slow drivers and to stop drivers parking on the double yellow lines, to ensure a safer environment for our children on their journey to school. The funding to buy them came from HomeRun; the funds were “unlocked” once enough people had signed up. So a big thanks to all who have got involved so far. There is more funding available though, so please sign up if you haven’t already. In case you missed it, HomeRun is designed to help parents share the journey to school and is particularly helpful for those coming longer distances who might want to team up on their journey in. You can sign up here: http://www.homerun-app.com/launch/jk5493.
