21st July 2023

Dear Families,

Happy, happy very last Friday of the Academic Year! Thank you for all your support over the year- I would really like to thank all the staff of JKPS and take a moment to reflect on how grateful I am to have such dedicated staff who go so much more than just the extra mile to give your children these wonderful learning opportunities. The quality of the relationships within our school community; the depth of commitment; the creativity and responsiveness of all (cleaners, caterers, office team, support staff, teaches and senior leaders) across the year leads us to being the wonderful, successful school that we are. We are Southwark's most popular school for Reception admissions and Southwark's  only growing school (in a time when schools have shrinking PANS and are closing down); and in current environment of high inflation and shrinking budgets, this is mighty impressive achievement.

So a heartfelt thank you to everybody in our community, our children and our families, and all that you do in supporting us. Thank you for such generosity in your well-wishes and gifts, we wish you all the most wondrous summer holiday. And on that note, here's a message from us all to you: https://vimeo.com/846660026/06b09c19e2?share=copy

I have two requests: be kind to yourselves and keep your children reading and moving!

Whole School Theatre Visit

It was an amazing day on Tuesday when all the school travelled to the Old Vic and watched Mog - we hope that it is a memory that lasts a lifetime. Thank you to everybody who was involved; from the parents paying the tickets and making the lunches, to the army of volunteers, to all the staff who ensured your children's safety and enjoyment. ONE EXTRAORDINARILY BIG THANK YOU!

auf Wiedersehen  Year 6 and our staff leavers

{alt_tag}

It is that time of the year when we wish our Year 6's a fond farewell. You have been an amazing year group who have smiled, laughed and worked hard. Your resilience, collaboration and kindness have possibly patched the way for you being the best Year 6 cohort ever!

Well done for obtaining 97% in your SATs for Maths, SPAG and Reading. Everybody wishes you well in your journey onto secondary school and remember, don't bother showing up if you can't be KIND!

Thank you to the Year 6's for their beautiful leaving gift of a new table tennis table -  what a legacy to leave!

Finally, a massive thank you to the Year 5 parents for catering for the Year 6 Graduation as they hand the baton over to next year's Year 5 parents.

A massive thank you again to the staff who are leaving us today. This morning we said a fond farewell to them all, in the way that we know best - with a song and a boogie.

5th Annual Herne Hill Oktoberfest - Sat 23rd September 12-8 PM

Dust off your dirndls and lay out your lederhosen! The fabulous Herne Hill Oktoberfest is back and the FoJKPS need your support!

Planning has begun for our 5th annual Oktoberfest, happening at JKPS on Saturday 23 September. This is by far the largest and most successful fundraising event of the year for the school run by the Friends! Oktoberfest raises critically needed funds for everything from technology and enrichment, to basic classroom supplies and improvements to our outdoor spaces. If you want to join the planning committee please contact Laurie and Shivali directly at Laurie.sanderson@gmail.com or shivalishah@aol.com. We always need help in advance and on the day with marketing, food, drinks, set-up, and much more.

Please save the date, invite your friends, and get ready to bake some Streuselkuchen, pour some Hefeweizen, and serve up a few (hundred) wursts.

Haven’t made it to Oktoberfest before? It’s a family-friendly event with local beers, games for kids, music and entertainment in a garden setting. Delicious food including German/London fusion, authentic German wurst, vegan options, coffee, homemade cakes and much more. SE London meets German Biergarten! FREE ENTRY

Sponsorship for Oktoberfest - The 2023 Herne Hill Oktoberfest, in support of the FoJKPS, is rolling ahead and we are quickly getting ready for the big event on Saturday 23 September.  If you have joined us in the past you know this is the biggest fundraising event we do as a school community, and very successful, raising much-needed funds for daily classroom needs and special enrichment activities.  Local businesses are asking to sponsor the event this year, and we wanted to give the parent community an opportunity to do the same.
If you work with or run a local business, and would like to get involved we have several different levels of sponsorship available listed below.  We are also flexible on sponsor benefits, so if you have an idea beyond what's already in place, please get in touch.
