Dear Families,

Thank you to everybody who turned up to the parents evening-the feedback was very positive, and we would like  to capture this support with the following questionnaire. I promise it will only take two minutes of your time. It's a good way to present what our community thinks about the school and its provision.

Another big Vielen Dank to everybody who organise the Oktober festival and everybody who attended; it is the most impressive and heart-warming community event that I have ever seen a community create.

Please read the email from the friends which you should have read before this to explain how we will be spending some of the money. I want to thank them for their hard work for turn this around so fast.

Homework

Because of parents' evening, some of children may not have brought home their paper copies of their homework home. Have no fear they will be  emailed to you with this newsletter and things will be back to normal next week. Thank you to the parents who have engaged with this. I know that homework can be a divisive tool, but in this case, we believe it is what our children need and this will support them with their learning . External moderations and internal moderation of the children's work, shows a need to focus on spelling and handwriting. The children practising these words at home enables them to place this key knowledge into their long-term and apply it in their writing.

A reminder that all the slides from the Curriculum Meetings are on our website:

Anthem Training Day-What are the teachers doing in school?

Today is our annual Anthem training day, where the staff learn about Anthem Institute which is the virtual school for all training and professional development for Anthem staff in every role. This will be a valuable resource to our staff in rolling our the Anthem Way and the Anthem Strategy.

The Strategy- what does this mean in practice?

If in every lesson, every student 'gets it', and understands the main idea, then they are ready to move on to the next lesson successfully. Setting students up to succeed means focusing on building up their knowledge and skills, day in day out.

The Anthem Way

The Anthem Way will specify how we teach in our schools. Our teaching approach is grounded in cognitive science, designed for maximum impact on learning. We will work consistently, lesson by lesson, student by student, to provide evidence-based instruction within a knowledge-rich curriculum.

The Anthem Way will also guide how we support students and families. Our goal is to create ambitious, successful schools in which every child thrives. The Anthem Way reflects our commitment to making this vision a reality in all aspects of our work.

Anthem Vision

Our vision is that together, we will create ambitious and successful schools in which every child thrives. The Anthem Institute makes different pathways of development available to all staff - teachers and support, in schools and our National Team – because when our adults thrive, our children will thrive.

Black History Month

October is Black History Month and an opportunity to shine a light on black history, heritage and culture. The theme for Black History Month 2023 is Saluting our Sisters, recognising and celebrating the crucial role that black women have played in building communities, inspiring change and shaping history in the UK and around the world. First, we would like to salute the inspirational women who we have named our classrooms after: Olive Morris, Kelly Holmes, Ruby Bridges and Rosa Parks. Across the month, we will be 'saluting' other black women, reading stories and listening to poems to learn about their struggles and celebrate their successes.

In Years 4, 5 and 6, children will be writing poems and entering into the Black History month poetry competition; the competition encourages young people to express themselves creatively and learn about the diverse experiences, struggles and triumphs of black women. If your child is not in the mentioned year groups and they would like to enter, please encourage them to submit their poem to school by 15th of November.

Another shout out to those of you who would like to help look after our library.  This could either be with its general upkeep or on Friday afternoons where the children visit and enable them to take out books.

Please see a member of SLT or the office staff if you have any spare time you can spare to help out.

Thank you!

Friends Corner

Another fab Oktoberfest! Together we raised around a whopping £18,000 (profit), all to go towards school projects. FoJKPS News_Octoberfest

A few fun facts:

  • Food - 1,440 sausages, 30kg spaetzle, 162.54kg Fries, and over 60 salads eaten.

  • Bakery - 750 pretzels, 500 gingerbread and 460 portions of streuselkuchen devoured.

  • Drinks - 41 kegs of beer, 130 bottles of wine/prosecco consumed, a ridiculous number of lemons squeezed.

Thank You!!!

We would like to thank all our lovely JKPS families for contributing to an amazing day. You baked  , made , cooked/served  , poured/served   , gave up your Fri pm/Sat am to set up and clear it all away on Sun, like it never happened (except for the telling line of empty kegs)!

We would like do a big shout out to the following folks for all their dedication and hard work to make the event run smoother than ever:

Regina, Alex, Stefanie, Daniela, Boudien, Jade, Tim, Amy, Jez, Cadu, Katherine, Lorna, Zed, Annika (ex- JKPS parent), Big Andy (ex- JKPS parent) and Arthur (Ms Jo’s son).

The event would not have been such a success without them.

Lastly, a big thank you to our sponsors for their generous donations/discounts.

And if you want to keep that Oktoberfest feeling all year long, we still have some Oktoberfest t shirts and commemorative glass left, place your order online with the FoJKPS here: https://www.fojkps.org/buynow/

If you still have containers or lost property to collect, they are out front by the school office.

Our next Gardening Day will be on Saturday, 7th October.

Come along and enjoy the open spaces with the promise of biophilic therapy as we tame the gardens, top up the woodchips and identify future tasks for the coming months. You can join the gardening WhatsApp group here: FoJKPS Garden Group

 Uniforms FoJKPS Second Hand Uniforms

We need your coat hangers! We’re rearranging our stock of second-hand uniform. If you have spare hangers - especially the ones with the ‘bar’ and those with clips to hang trousers and shorts, please can you drop them off at the office? We currently have quite a lot of long-sleeved polo shirts and good quality tights, so please don’t buy new ones as the weather turns colder, but email us at fojkps@gmail.com with your size requests instead!
