Friday 6th October 2023

Dear Families,

It has been a very positive week. On Tuesday, the school had its first Collaborate Review Day; this involved members from the Executive team, other head teachers  from our trust and members from the Anthem Community Council (formerly known as the LGB). The purpose of the visit is to drive improvement in education standards, maximising attainment and building cultural, social and economic capital.  The main focus of Tuesday's visit was to-do a 'deep dive' into writing and look at the impact of the new trust-wide Literacy  Tree Curriculum.

The feedback was very positive

  • children displayed excellent learning behaviours and a real enthusiasm for their writing
  • support staff were deployed well
  • scaffolds to ensure that inclusion and challenge are in place
  • the school environment is beautiful and facilitates learning
  • all staff were welcoming and approachable
  • there are examples of high standards and good progress

Development points:

  • To increase the capacity of leaders so that they can coach and team teach more with our ECTs (Early Career Teachers)
  • To further develop the delivery of the' I do, We do, You do' model.  (This  is where the children learn through the teacher modelling, internalising his/her strategies and then slowly releasing the children so they can work independently)
  • To ensure that all teachers are live marking; giving feedback during each session so the children can address misconceptions immediately

They will be back in January to see how the school is doing in implementing the new curriculum, improving standards and progress for all children.

Punctuality

For the more observant of you, you may have noticed that we have a brand-new digital clock outside. This is here to support us all by closing the doors on time and ensuring that your children arrive at school before 8:50.

If, every day, you are a few minutes late, can we please ask you to set off earlier to be at school on time.

Dogs

Please can we ask that dogs (even the most  friendly and fluffy versions) are not brought onto the school grounds at collection and pick-up times as we have children who are scared of dogs.

Parent Survey

Thank you to all the parents who participated  in the survey and to the wonderful ACC members for arranging this. I hope you will agree with me in thinking that the image below captures what is so special and precious to us:

We will be putting this in the staff room so that it can remind all our staff of what a special and affirming community we have.

Congratulations!

Well done to the Year 5 and 6 football team who made a great start to the season. Last Saturday they won 7-1 against St Mary's.

Good luck for the next one on the 14th!

A massive well done to Victor M (Rosa Parks) for completing a 5km Hike For Health last Sunday, helping raise over £500 for cancer research at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. All achieved whilst dressed as a dinosaur and accompanied by Reception's very own Super Cat!

Have you achieved something amazing recently? Let us know via the admin email and we can share your news in our newsletter.

Book this date - Thursday 19th October

Thursday 19th, we will having our very own 'Mog Art Gallery' where all the children's work will be displayed; then you may wish to purchase these framed artworks. In addition to this, we will be displaying our poems from Black History month along with some drinks, so parents can have the opportunity to mingle in the spirit of JKPS.

Black History Month

October is Black History Month and an opportunity to shine a light on black history, heritage and culture. The theme for Black History Month 2023 is Saluting our Sisters, recognising and celebrating the crucial role that black women have played in building communities, inspiring change and shaping history in the UK and around the world. Next week we will have an assembly with the children to discuss this year's theme and encourage all children to compete in the poetry competition.

The children will be reading poems in class for inspiration!

Have a look at Payton (Year 5) and her sister Patrice's poem, which we think captures this year's theme beautifully.

On Friday 20th  October we are asking all children to come in wearing something red to mark Wear Red Day, to 'show racism the red card'.

Dulwich Art Gallery

A reminder that each class will be visiting the Dulwich Picture gallery to partake in a workshop- please ensure that you pay the £4 contribution.

Without these contributions the school would  not be able to engage in such exciting opportunities.
