Friday 1st December 2023

Dear Families,

December is here and tingles of excitement for the festive season are definitely starting to ripple through the school. See below for a Christmas Jumper initiative, a plan to prepare Christmas Boxes to deliver and, of course, details in the Friend's section about next Friday's (8th December) wreath making and Saturday's (9th December) Christmas Fair.

Keep warm and have lovely weekends,

Patrick

P.s. Did you hear about the fabulous EYFS African Drumming Workshop?

Last week, the children in early years took part in a fantastic West African drumming and dance workshop led by Wuntunara to support their literacy lessons this fortnight. They have been reading the stories 'The Leopards Drum', 'Anansi the Spider' and 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses' all based on traditional African Tales, which support our new Literacy Tree topics. They had a wonderful time learning how different parts of the drum sounded and how to use different parts of their hand to make different sounds on the drum. They created some beautiful music and even had the opportunity to show off their dance moves. Over the two weeks the children have created some wonderful art work, made junk model musical shakers and written some fantastic super sentences all about their wishes, just like one of the characters did in the story.

Well done early years!

Christmas Boxes

We have partnered up with a local primary school and we are going to surprise some of their children with Christmas Gift Boxes on the last day of school. But we need your help! If you have any of the following, please bring them to school next week. The following week, some of our children will box them and wrap them, ready for delivery.

  • a box (shoebox or similar)
  • sweet things - nut and pork free
  • unworn winter wearable items: Christmas socks or gloves etc.
  • a book or small toy (good condition only please) (suitable for ages 4-11)
  • wrapping paper and ribbon (so we can gift wrap the boxes)

A Christmas Jumper Initiative

'Tis the season for Christmas Jumpers! Why not recycle your jumper from last year at our JKPS Christmas Jumper Exchange? We will leave a clothes rail in front of the school all next week. If you have a Christmas jumper you no longer wear, you can come and leave it on the rail. If you see a new one you like on the rail, help yourself. Both adult and child sizes welcome!
