Friday 19th January 2024

Dear Families,

Well it has definitely been the coldest week this week! Thank you to our premises manager, Lawrence, for helping ensure all the radiators are doing their job to keep us warm inside the school.

Several families have been asking about term dates for next academic year. Southwark have released their term dates for 2024-25 and we are just in the process of finalising when INSET days will be. We hope to be able to provide these next week. Some parents have also asked about a Tutorial Day next month following a previous communication. Our apologies for any confusion; I can confirm that school will be open as normal on Friday 9th February when we will also be holding our annual Fasching Parade! (More details to follow soon.)

Have a wonderful weekend.

Patrick

Messages for the week:

Please note that

Punctuality: a number of children are still coming into school after 8:50am. After 8:50am, the side doors are closed and they are registered as lates. Please do ensure your child arrives in school before this time to enable them to have a settled start to the day with our morning reading routines.

Staffing Update - a message from Vicki Briody

I am pleased to say that at the start of the week Elma Lawson and I held internal interviews for the position of interim Deputy Headteacher at JKPS. As you may be aware, it is common practice for primary schools to have a deputy head and I am pleased to say that in collaboration with the chair and vice chair of the ACC we have happily appointed Mr Patrick and Miss Orla as interim deputy heads. We will be clearly defining their roles over the coming weeks and will share more of this as we go. I can confirm that they will continue with their current teaching duties.

Following our meeting with the Goethe Institute, Andrea (who currently teaches in Year 1 and 2), will also be supporting Year 5 and 6 from after half-term. This week, we have also been meeting with prospective candidates to help further extend our German provision across the school, including EYFS.

Finally, I would also like to take this opportunity to let you know that sadly, Miss Sara has resigned from her position as class teacher in Yr 4. We thank her for all her work at JKPS and wish her luck in her next role.

More Literacy Tree activity... this week from Years 1, 2 and 6

Football News!

Both the JKPS boys’ and girls’ football teams were in action last Saturday for the first games of 2024, playing against Crown Lane and Woodmansterne for the school leagues. Both teams ended up with a win. The boys won 2-0 and the girls won 5-1. Both teams are still undefeated this season. Well done, Tigers!

Our girls' team have also started attending the Southwark tournament and will be playing till the end of April. We have entered 3 teams this year and we wish them all the best.

Friends Corner

Hi again from the Friends. To find out more about us and what we do or to find out how you can donate just head here. Or get in touch at fojkps@gmail.com.

🌳 Thanks to all who came to our Gardening Day last weekend. Together we tidied, pruned, ‘wood-chipped’, repaired some of the signs and put some of the recently cut tree trunks in the play area as seating for the children. We look forward to seeing you at the next one on 24th February!

👕 Second hand uniform. The amazing Daniela is stepping down from organising our second hand uniform stock. We really appreciate the time she has put into this over the years, huge thanks from us all 🙏. We’re now on the lookout for someone who could take over, so please email us at fojkps@gmail.com or message your class rep, if you think you can help.
