Friday 1st March 2024

Dear Families,

First up, a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to come in to meet their child's teacher on Tuesday this week, and discuss their progress over the year so far. It was lovely to see so many of you. These conversations are incredibly valuable for your child's education, and it is a great opportunity to talk about some of the fantastic work they do in school. If you weren't able to make an appointment for Tuesday, do get in touch via the office to arrange a meeting.

For anyone passing our school first thing this morning, they couldn't have missed the hub of activity on the corner of Village Way. This was the unveiling of our new road safety banners, designed by the children and Eco Council. Thank you to our local MP, Helen Hayes, and Southwark Council for supporting the event, and thank you so much to all those parents and children who are showing such dedication towards making the roads and pavements around our school safer. More details below.

Finally, next week is World Book Day. Please read the separate newsletter sent out earlier in the week to find out about all the activities lined up for next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Patrick

Messages for the week

In this afternoon's assembly, we talked to the children about some new lunchtime routines that we are launching next week, including looking at ways we can reduce food waste. Here are some good facts to start a discussion about food waste with your child: https://kids.earth.org/climate-change/10-food-waste-facts-for-kids/ More on this in the coming weeks.

Safeguarding message

Are you concerned about your child's online activity? The NSPCC has an excellent Online Safety Blog that includes information about specific websites and apps. It is well worth looking at with your child when discussing online safety.

Thank you to everyone who joined the recent Friends’ Gardening Day with great work being done to prepare the beds for planting. Next time we will be undertaking lots of planting and odd jobs around the school grounds so please put it in your diary and come along.

As the evenings are getting brighter, we are launching a ‘Friends Evening’ for parents to meet and socialise. The first is planned for 22nd March with a talk on ‘What AI can do already and what it will be doing in a year’ to be delivered by Tim Rocktaschel (parent at school and AI researcher at UCL). Future evenings with table quizzes and wine nights are being considered, and any suggestions from parents would be greatly appreciated. We’re also thinking ahead to the Summer Fair, Sports Day and celebrating the school’s 10th birthday so please get in touch at fojkps@gmail.com if you would like to be involved.
