Friday 15th March 2024

Dear Families,

Thank you to the fabulous Year 6's for their presentation all about International Women's Day and the suffrage movement - what a critical turning point in history this was for Human Rights. If you want to discuss this further with your child at home, there are some great resources on the National Geographic for Kids website and you can find out about Emmeline Pankhurst's trial here.

We are very excited to be welcoming the German Ambassador to school next Wednesday, along with Andrea Pfeil from the Goethe Institut and Sal Wilson (Trustee). As well as going on a tour of the school, they will be meeting with some of our children, visiting lessons and finding more about what we are doing to promote early language acquisition, bilingualism and cultural exchange.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Messages for the week:

A massive thank you to all the Friends and supporters who helped with the clear-up of the auditorium on Monday! Read more about this below in the 'Friends Corner section'.

Coming up next week: Neurodiversity Awareness Week

We are looking forward to celebrating Neurodiversity and Additional Needs Celebration Week next week. Read all about it in next week's newsletter - meanwhile, ask your children what they noticed in the corridors when they come in on Monday...

Safer Streets Update

The Mog Chronicle wasn't the only paper that reported on our recent Safer Street community event - the Brixton Buzz and South London Press both ran reports!

And Southwark Council have listened to all of us. We heard this week that they have set aside a pot of money and committed to a scoping exercise for Half Moon Lane. This is to identify potential measures to make the area outside the school safer.

It's likely to be the start of a lengthy process but a massive well done to all the parents, pupils and staff for getting their voices heard. We're hoping for more updates later in the Spring. Watch this space!

Year 3 Trip to the British Museum

As part of our creative curriculum enrichment, Year 3 visited the British Museum this week, finding out more about their history topic Ancient Egypt. They had a great day out.

Meanwhile in Early Years, they've been paint flicking over flower pictures, with newspaper flower pots, inspired by 'The Extraordinary Gardener'.

Friends Corner

Happy Friday, we hope you had a great week! A Huge Thank You to everyone who helped in clearing out the auditorium on Monday. Lots of toys and books have been donated to a local family and refugee centre, and the second hand uniforms are now sorted and ready to go on sale again!

We are finalising plans for our Spring Gardening Day on March 24th, and would love to see as many families as possible to help freshen up the Forest School, plant up the Productive Garden, and many other odd jobs around the outdoor spaces for the children’s enjoyment. Anke Zeller has kindly agreed to host a workshop on biodiverse planting in play spaces which we are really looking forward to. The Friends will ensure there are plenty of refreshments and Hot Cross Buns for all the volunteers, please come along from 11.00am!

We are also looking forward to our first Friend’s Evening next Friday, 22nd March, to hear all about AI and what it means for our future. You can confirm a place in the link below.
