Friday 19th April 2024

Dear Families,

Welcome back. It's been lovely seeing all the children back in this week, and a warm welcome back to Ms Keziah who will be working in Year 6 two mornings a week this half-term before she returns from maternity leave after the May half-term.

This week we have also started our new wrap-around care: from 4:30pm to 6pm, this is now provided by Sports Focus Coaching and led by Coach Ollie. A massive thank you to Danielle and the office team for ensuring the (almost) seamless transition to the new system. On this note, this is also a reminder that wrap-around care must be booked in advance. Please ensure you contact us if you are ever likely to be late for collection, as otherwise late collections may incur a fine.

Wishing you all wonderful weekends.

Patrick

It was fantastic to see our school ranked 5th (ranked for combined achievement in Y6 reading, writing and maths) in the country in the Sunday Times top 500 primary schools last Sunday. What an extraordinarily brilliant achievement and a massive well done to all involved!

Important notice about WhatsApp groups and communication with staff

WhatsApp is a great way to communicate and we know how useful it is to keep abreast about what's happening in school. This said, we have recently been made aware of conduct in some school groups that we don't believe to be constructive, appropriate or supportive. It is incredibly important that all adults in our community follow the same e-safety standards that we instil in our children: being kind online, speaking positively and being respectful. If you have any concerns, please reach out to appropriate members of staff via the admin email: admin@judithkerr.anthemtrust.uk

On a similar note, unfortunately, some members of our parent community have spoken to and about our office staff both disrespectfully and inappropriately this week, specifically around after-school club provision. All our staff are incredibly hard-working and should always be treated with the respect they deserve. With regards to clubs, we always do our best to accommodate people's needs and wishes though this isn't always possible. We do, however, have a clear protocol that our after-school clubs work on a first-come, first-served basis, with fixed ratios to ensure safeguarding requirements are met.

Y5 trip to the Unicorn Theatre

Year 5 had a brilliant trip to watch The Odyssey (musical) at the Unicorn Theatre in London Bridge. They were transported to different realms and lands on a thrilling adventure.  The children then wrote some wonderful theatre reviews on what they thought about the show!

Building links for German

From Ms Rebecca: "I had the absolute privilege of visiting our partner school, Gemeinschaftsgrundschule Garthestraße Köln, for three days over the Easter holiday. I was able see English, German and maths being taught, along with other lessons. I spent some time with the Year 5 children's pen pals and also read ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ to them in English. The trip was a fantastic experience and we are looking forward to growing our partnership.

This week we had our first German Working Group meeting, bringing together school and parents to identify priorities and strategies for growing our German provision.

Friends Corner

Welcome Back, and we hope you are feeling fresh for Summer Term! There are lots of great things happening this term, and as always we are appreciative of all the brilliant volunteers who give their time to make it happen. Year groups will be contacted shortly about ‘JKPS Year Group Tea Towels’ which will commemorate portraits of the children as a lovely memento of their year together. A link will be active from next week on our website to place your orders ahead of the 3rd May deadline. Apologies in advance if you have any issues accessing our website as it transitions to a new domain over the weekend.

We are planning another Friends Evening on May 1st, with the FoJKPS Quiz Night to be held in the upstairs School Hall. Find some smart friends and book your place online with maximum tables of 8 people. Drinks and nibbles will be available and the quiz will start at 19.30. Tickets £10.

The Friends Annual General Meeting will be held online on 29th April. Please join us to run through details of the past year’s events and look ahead to next year. Don’t forget to get in touch if you are interested in supporting or organising any of our great events including the Gardening Days, Summer Fair, and 10-Year JKPS Commemorative Artwork. Hopefully see some of you at the Gardening Day tomorrow where we will focus on EY and the Forest School areas and relax in the open spaces.
