Friday 26th April 2024

Dear Families,

It's been another busy week - Reception had a fabulous trip to Brockwell Park and Year 4 have started their swimming lessons at JAGS. Meanwhile, our Year 6's are warming up to their SATS in a few weeks' time; Y6 parents keep an eye out for an email from the Y6 team to confirm arrangements.

Yesterday, we interviewed some candidates for September. It was a really positive day and we are looking forward to sharing more about this in due course.

Schönes Wochenende!

More about books...

 - quality chapter books wanted for the school library

The JKPS library is now offering expanded time for classes to enjoy reading with us, and are starting to borrow books again! We have been getting many requests for series of chapter books, for the younger and older children.  If your family is done with any of the following please consider dropping off to school: Bunny Vs Monkey, Dogman, Isadora Moon, Worst Witch, Izzy the Inventor, Upside Down Magic, Beast Quest, Dork Diaries, Wings of Fire, Warrior Cats, Murder Most Unladylike, Percy Jackson, and similar...  THANK YOU!!!

Donate a 'birthday' book! As we are a healthy school, we don't allow sweets or cakes to come in on children's birthdays. However, if your child would like to give something on their birthday, why not buy a copy of their favourite book to donate to the school library. They can wrap it up and unwrap it in class and we will stick a 'donation' sticker inside the front cover.

Year 3 Impressionists

A huge thank you to parents Liz and Jenny who came to support the Year 3 team with their immersion art last Friday. The artwork was absolutely stunning!

Hallo! Ich bin Ms. Alison. Y1 and 2 German Learners have been consolidating and extending their German vocabulary and phrases through action songs, videos, games, craft and book work activities this week. The team currently teaching German throughout the school are: Ms Andrea from the Goethe Institut, Ms Julia, Ms Sabine, Ms Niya and Ms Rebecca and myself, Ms Alison.

And here's a little tongue twister for everyone to practice:

Ein Zungenbrecher: Acht alte Ameisen aßen am Abend Ananas.

(Eight old ants ate pineapple in the evening.)

Friends Corner

🌻Virtual AGM at 8.30pm on Monday. Please join us to hear what FoJKPS has achieved in the last year, to review our finances and to elect the Committee Members who will represent us until the next AGM. A Zoom link will be emailed out and sent round on the WhatsApp Community and year groups on Monday.

🌻Quiz Night next Wednesday (1st). Tickets have been going fast so get your teams together! Apologies that our website is still down, please email us with the number of tickets you’d like (teams to be a maximum of 8) - it’s £10 each and you can pay on the night. Drinks and nibbles will be available and the quiz will start at 7.30pm. Proceeds to the 10 Year Commemorative project.

🌻Year 6 Bake Sale next Friday (3rd) after school. This is to raise money for their graduation activities. Please bake something (no nuts or seeds!) and come along with some small change. Please also label your bake with its name and ingredients!

🌻Summer Picnic (22nd June 12pm till 4pm):
1. Please support us by hosting a Pedder Board. This is a really easy way to help us raise money, as Pedder pay us for each board put up. The boards will be put up 2 weeks prior to the event and removed 1 week afterwards. Sign up here: https://forms.gle/7WrFMhKjJoCU7hgF7. Deadline 12th May.

2. We are on the lookout for volunteers to help on various stalls, so please do get in touch if you can help organise and oversee: Cakes & Waffles, Bar (Wine & Lemonade) or Games (Egg race, ‘Sack hüpfen’, etc).

🌻Thanks to everyone who attended the gardening day last weekend, it was lovely to get out in the gardens again. The next one is on Sunday 12th May, organised by Year 1.

🌻We raised £117 at last week’s uniform sale, to go towards the 10 Year Commemorative project. We still have lots of trousers and Summer dresses, just email us at fojkps@gmail.com with your size requirements if you need some. If you have any size 28 or 30 jumpers or cardigans you no longer need, we’ve run out so please bring them (washed!) to the school office.

🌻We have been co-ordinating the creation of year group tea towels, the children have been (or will be!) drawing self-portraits in school which we will then send off to be turned into tea towels. We will send out a way to order and pay for these in due course.
