 Friday 27th March 2026

Dear Families,

A massive thank you to Ms Katrin who has been running extra Forest Sessions for all year groups as a part of our Neurodiversity Celebrations. The children (and adults) have absolutely loved the activities and spending time in this hugely valuable space.

A huge shout‑out to all the children who performed with their Rock Steady bands this week. It has been wonderful to see just how far they’ve come—both in their musical skills and in their ability to collaborate as a band. But it’s about so much more than music. A central part of the programme is building self‑confidence and supporting wellbeing. Looking around the hall during the concerts—at the pride and sheer joy on the faces of both the musicians and the audience—it’s clear that this is being achieved with real success.

A big thank you to Jem for everything she does to support the children on their Rock Steady journey.

If your child isn’t currently taking part, click here to learn more about RockSteady. There are also a limited number of bursary places available; please do get in touch if this might help your child access the programme.

Music can be a wonderful pathway to wellbeing—and what better way to lift the spirits than singing about Frühling! Here’s one of our JKPS favourites: Frühblüher

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Thank you to everyone who helped out at last weekend's 'Bumper Gardening Day'! The space is looking amazing, there was clearly a spring feel to the day, and great to see the new loggery!

Special thanks to Anandi for doing such beautiful "Easter Flowers" with the children. And thanks to Katrin, leading in the Forest Area, Donncha and the Eco Council for creating the Loggery, and Claire, for bringing a Scouts Group and their parents to help.

What's happening in and around school

Year 3 had a brilliant trip to the Gurdwara in East Dulwich this week. The visit brought to life their study of Siikhism and learning about the 5 k's of Sikhism. Do you know the symbolism behind the Kara, Kachera, Kirpan, Khalsa, Kesh and Kanga?

This week, Year 4 enjoyed spending time in our forest area as part of our recent neurodiversity celebrations. They  made nature inspired pieces of artwork using clay and a variety of natural materials.

Some creations included trees, mushrooms, snakes, and even a deer. A big thank you to Ms Katrin for allowing us to use this fantastic space!

Year 4 also built on their understanding of fractions by exploring mixed numbers and improper fractions. Using a delicious example, we discovered that three halves of a Jaffa Cake are the same as one whole and a half!

The children then applied this knowledge by creating their own fraction number lines, adding one half each time and recording their findings as both improper fractions and mixed numbers. Maths has never looked so tasty!

Friends Corner

The sun shone on Sunday and a huge number of people came down to get the grounds prepared for the summer term. Thank you to everyone who chipped in with woodchip, did some digging, shifting and planting. The garden, woodland, and other areas are looking stunning. Thanks to the eco council for the new loggery too.

The Friends were also successful in receiving £2k funding from Southwark's Neighbourhood Grant additional planting and accessible planters for Early Years. Thank you to Donncha for leading that work.

Volunteers Wanted

Everything the Friends does is reliant on volunteers. We have some regular events (Oktoberfest, etc.) but always open to more ideas. The Gingerbread House Workshop and Silent Disco already have the makings of classics.

Fundraising - As we are developing plans for a MUGA, we would love to particularly hear from anyone interested in running a sports related fundraiser. We know fun runs/colour runs are very successful in other schools, and also a great way for kids to get active. Please get in touch via your class rep or e-mail: FoJKPS@gmail.com

Planning Permissions - FoJKPS is looking for a parent volunteer with planning or town planning experience to help with the potential upcoming outdoor development projects. If you can assist, or know someone who can, please get in touch.
