Friday 29th November 2024

Dear Families,

Over the past weeks, some of our teachers have been out at other Anthem schools as part of our writing moderation strategy. This is a great opportunity for teachers to meet other teachers in their year group across Anthem schools and share ideas for writing whilst helping ensure consistency in our teacher assessment judgements.

Thank you to Duncan Baldwin for all your valuable contributions as chair of our ACC, and welcome Anna Redfern as our new chair! For more on this, see my comment in the ACC update below.

Anthem Community Council - update

Following the letter from our ACC this afternoon, i would like to extend my thanks to our outgoing chair, Duncan Baldwin, and thank him for everything he has done to support the development of our school; his wisdom and insight has been invaluable. I would also like to welcome Anna Redfern as the new chair - she has an excellent understanding of our school and community and we very much look forward to working with her.

Y2 Trips

This week was the turn of year 2's to visit Dulwich Picture Gallery to take part in their 'Mark Makers' workshop. They began with a walk through the gallery led by the wonderful Nikki, our workshop leader. Next, she taught the children how to 'look closely' at the details in a painting and what clues they gave us. Next, the children created their own creative book using inspiration from the paintings, using a feature of their choice as a starting point, before starting their workshop. Whilst listening to some relaxing and soothing music the children learnt artistic skills including layering, texture rubbing using oil pastels and finally creating 'magic paintings' using wax crayons and washing with dye to reveal their patterns underneath. Take a look at some of their wonderful art work. Thank you again to the parents who were able to support us on this trip.

The children then had a wonderful trip to the Natural History Museum as part of their Ocean topic. They attended a special workshop, where they learned about different marine species, coral reefs, and the impact of pollution on the oceans. The children were especially excited to see the giant whale skeleton and the life-sized dolphin models. We even managed to have a quick look of the famous dodo they had been learning about in class. No trip to the NHM would be complete without a visit to see the (Santa) T-Rex! Thank you again to all the parents and carers who made these trips possible.
