Friday 27th June 2025

Dear Families,

This morning it was the Year 4's turn to take to the stage with their performance of Shackleton. There were brilliant performances all round, with some excellent acting, wonderful singing and plenty of laughs. Thank you to the children and teachers for such an entertaining and educational production. At JKPS, we believe that the opportunity to perform is such an important part of children's learning and emotional development, so it was fantastic to see all the children shine.

Huge congratulations to the Y6 cricket team who on Monday were crowned champions of the Ace Tournament with JKPS teams coming first and second! And well done too, to the Year 4 cricketers who came third out of 28 groups in their Platform Cricket competition on Tuesday. We clearly have some budding cricketers.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at tomorrow's family picnic!

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Thank you to those who have settled outstanding funds in their MCAS accounts. All accounts need to be paid in full by Tuesday 1st of July 2025. Please log on to your account and go to 'outstanding payments' to see your balance. This includes all childcare vouchers and government tax-free payments. If you have outstanding payments after July, this may mean you won't be able to book clubs for the Autumn Term.

Thank you to all those who helped out for gardening day last weekend. Lots of mowing, tidying, weeding and watering was done, and the kids could harvest cherries, raspberries and mulberries. And it is definitely a plum year this year!

What's happening in school...

In RSE Year 1 celebrated different families. We discussed how each and every family may look different as we have different people in our families. We discussed how families help keep us safe, show love. In celebration, we designed posters for 'different families, same love.'

Year 5 had a fantastic time taking part in a Japanese pottery workshop at Alleyn's, led by Sally (Otis' mum). The children hand-moulded their own Japanese tea bowls, learning about traditional techniques and exploring different stylistic influences. They carefully practised adding foot rings—a classic feature of Japanese ceramics—and used ceramic glaze to paint decorative details onto their bowls. We can’t wait to see how the finished pieces look once they’ve been fired!

How wonderful to see the Year 3's this afternoon in turtle formation, showing off their rather fabulous shields as part of their Romans topic, as well as demonstrating their understanding of Roman battle formation!

Reception have been fully immersed in their Literacy Tree text 'The Night Pirates'. Lots of wonderful learning happening this week; here are a few photos of their wanted posters, paintings and role play in the pirate ship - even learning about floating and sinking in their science lesson this afternoon. Ahoy my hearties!

Good luck to our Year 6's who today headed to the Goethe-Institut for their A1 or A2 language exams. This was a culmination and perfect celebration of all their German learning since joining Judith Kerr Primary. We are all so proud of you!

Thank you to the Friends of JKPS who ensure that all children who wish to take part have access to the exam.

ECO SCHOOL NEWS 🌳

It's been a busy week for Eco School!

CAMPAIGNERS!

We handed out flyers to local businesses and residents on Friday to find out their thoughts about road safety along Half Moon Lane. From this information, we will be able to work with Southwark Council on how we can improve road safety in the area.

WATER BOTTLES

Eco School noticed that lots of water bottles in schools do not have children's names on them. When people misplace their water bottle it makes it trickier to find the owner. Eco School are offering their services!

Sign up on Friday 4th July at 3.20-3.45pm to get your water bottle labelled!

WELLIES & SHOES

We are on the search for any unwanted shoes/wellies - we can offer these to new children and their parents/carers joining JKPS. Eco School also want to go on a search for lost/solo indoor and outdoor shoes if they can be reunited with their owner and if any can't be, we can recycle them in fabric / charity containers.

Please bring any unwanted wellies/ shoes to your Eco Rep or to Ms Natalie in Zaha Hadid Class by Monday 14th July.

Keep thinking green! 🌳
