 Friday 6th February 2026

Dear Families,

Thank you to all the families who attended the online Racial Awareness session last night. It was incredibly encouraging to see such strong engagement. In today’s assembly, we continued our discussion on “Not Racist vs. Anti‑Racist”, exploring what it means to be actively anti‑racist by working through a scenario and identifying anti‑racist responses. There are many helpful resources to support conversations at home at: https://www.antiracism.education/
#ChangeNeedsAllofUs

Next week is Children's Mental Health Week. Throughout the week, we will be raising awareness and supporting pupils’ wellbeing, beginning with assemblies led by theSouthwark NEST Groundwork team. Activities will include yoga sessions with Ms Niya, an Internet Safety poster competition, a Wellbeing Fundraising Sale on Wednesday, EY drama workshops, West African drumming for KS2, and our annual Karneval on Friday afternoon. The theme for Friday will be “Love Yourself Day.”

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Karneval/ Fasching

Next Friday 13th February, children are invited to come to school in an outfit of their choice — this could be their comfiest clothes, their smartest outfit, a favourite costume, something red, or anything that shows off their personality and passions as we celebrate Karneval and Love Yourself Day!

Did you know? Karneval is a key annual event in many parts of Germany. Key traditions include wearing elaborate costumes, political satire floats, parades, and street parties, particularly in Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Munich.

Arriving at School on Time

A gentle reminder to families to please ensure children arrive at school on time each morning. We recognise that mornings can be tricky for some children and families, and we truly appreciate your efforts.

The school gates open at 8:35am and close at 8:50am. If children arrive after this time, parents/carers will need to sign them in at the main office, and they will then be taken to their classroom. Year 5/6 children who walk to school alone, will still need to be signed in at the office by a member of the admin team.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our school days begin calmly and on time.

Action for Happiness

As part of our Friday assemblies, we often look at the Action For Happiness Calendar. Every day there is a suggestion of what you can do to improve your mental health. View Friendly February here. Or, the German version, Freundlicher Februar, Hier.

Suggestions for the weekend include:

Saturday: Show an active interest by asking questions when talking to others

Sunday: Share what you’re feeling with someone you really trust

What's happening in and around school

Nursery and Reception went on an exciting trip to the Station Hall in Herne Hill to see the fabulous George Kirk, who told us all about the book Bessie’s Bees and sang some funny bee songs. Reception also played lots of maths games in celebration of Number Day this week, including a subitising game and Snakes and Ladders. To get ready for Lunar New Year, we also learned all about China and decorated our own vases with traditional blue patterns and spring blossoms.

Year 1 had loads of fun celebrating Number Day!

On Thursday 5th February, Stage 1 had a fantastic time in the Stepping Into Stories workshop with Gabby Dawney and illustrator Alex Barrow. The children learnt how to draw two favourite characters from the story, a wonderfully sleepy sloth and a cheeky vampire bat, and their enthusiasm was off the charts. Books ordered by families were signed at the end, making the visit even more special.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for creating such a memorable afternoon, especially Miss Amy for coordinating this valuable experience.

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Friends Corner

Thank you to the parents that helped with the **Woodchip Workout** this week. Those involved will know that we have an insatiable appetite for woodchip at the moment, needing to put a thick layer on the forest area and the early years area. If you know any tree surgeons with spare woodchip please point them in the school's direction.

Gardening Day - Sunday 8th Feb.

We had another delivery of woodchip on Wednesday and Friday from tree surgeons working in the area. On Sunday we will be doing some shovelling of woodchips into the Early Years. AS well as gentler tasks in the garden for those who don't want a work out! As always, even half an hour is helpful.
