 Friday 6th March 2026

Dear Families,

We are incredibly proud of our strong reading culture at JKPS, and we never miss an opportunity to celebrate books. A huge thank you to Ms Amy for organising all of our wonderful World Book Day reading activities, and to our children and families for embracing the celebrations with such enthusiasm. It has been a brilliant showcase of our love of reading.

March is always a busy month at JKPS, and next week we will be weaving in activities for British Science Week alongside our Assessment Week. Looking ahead, during the week beginning 16th March we are excited to take part in Neurodiversity Celebration Week. We will be sharing more details with you very soon.

 Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

World Book Day and Celebrating Reading!

This week, we have been celebrating the joy of reading with a range of exciting activities leading up to World Book Day on Friday 6th March.

Throughout the week, classes have been taking part in Buddy Reading, visiting the library with their partner classes to share books together and enjoy reading in our beautiful calm, shared space.

We have also been collaborating on our annual Whole School Story. Each class has contributed a paragraph at their allocated time, helping to build a wonderfully imaginative and sometimes very unexpected story! The finished story was shared with everyone during Friday’s assemblies.

On World Book Day itself, pupils and staff dressed up as their favourite word, idiom or metaphor. We saw some really creative ideas across the school.

Finally, the day ended with a rather energetic Reading Relay. Teachers had to start in their classes and listen out for the bell. When it rang, they left the story they were reading and ran to another class and continued reading.

Thank you all for your ongoing support with reading at home, early morning reading and promoting the love of reading for pleasure it makes such a difference not just in learning but in children's well being and empathy.

If you have any ideas for how we can continue to promote reading in Judith Kerr please contact the reading lead, Ms Amy.
