Friday 5th July 2024

Dear Families,

This morning, Year 3's taught me that the Romans used to eat flamingo tongues as a demonstration of status and wealth. I'm not sure what I think of that, but I do know that their production today was an absolute blast. Stacked full of historical facts, songs, laughter, and with an entertaining dose of etymology, it was a triumphant success. Well done to all the Year 3's - you absolutely shone and your hair-dos were spectacular! Catch up with the Mog Review here.

Wishing our Year 6 children lots of fun and sunshine for their residential next week!

Schönes Wochenende! If you're into football, it's going to be a good one... good luck to all our families whose national teams are playing in the UEFA Euro 24 Quarter Finals this weekend!

Reminder: Mental Health 101 Workshops - there will be a mental health workshop led by Southwark MHST in school on Tuesday, 9th July at 9am. Throughout the week, Years 1-5 will have mental health workshops included in their timetable.

Viel Glück to those Year 6 who have headed to the Geothe Institut to take their A1 or A2 language exams today. You have all been legends and I am sure you'll do brilliantly.

Ms Sarah and the wonderful year 1 children wrote some very creative acrostic poems today using their names. We wanted to share some examples of the amazing work:

"Remarkable is how I am"

"Yellow sunshine makes me happy"

"I am funny"

"I am funky"

"My name is the same as my friends"

This week, the Nursery children took part in an Australian art workshop, looking at the rock art of Aboriginal people from the past, as well as the work of contemporary Aboriginal artists. They explored shapes and patterns, and different skills and techniques. Each child made a beautiful hand print and dot painting to take home, and also enjoyed many of the other activities, including, creating a paper chain serpent, clay painting, and making didgeridoos!

Deutschecke

In Early Years, apart from practising our show songs and consolidating vocabulary, we have been continuing on the theme of transport. Did you know that German emergency vehicles don't say "nee naw", they say "tatütata"?

Chatterboxes (Himmel und Hölle in German) have become a popular trend in Year 1 so over the next couple of weeks some of our KS1 German learners may be bringing a German version home as a fun way to practise key words and phrases.
