Friday 12th July 2024

Dear Families,

It seems that the closer we get to the end of term, the busier it becomes. What a week it has been!

Firstly, a huge well done to the Year 6 children and teaching team for their SATs. Results were released on Tuesday this week - please see below. You clearly also enjoyed your well-deserved residential earlier in the week, despite the rain - see pictures below. Thank you to Ms Orla, Ms Lauren, Ms Donna and Coach Leo for all giving up your time to accompany the children.

On Tuesday this week, the top floor hall was a wonderful celebration of our Reception and Nursery children who all walked the catwalk, sang to their families and were all absolutely amazing. Thank you to the EYFS team for every step of development you've helped the children along with this year.

Then it was time for Year 4, an epic show telling the story of Sir Ernest Shackleton's epic journey to Antarctica. Shackleton's is an extraordinarily inspiring story; Year 4, your ability to work together to put on such a fabulous show was also an inspiration. Well done and thank you to those involved.

Almost finally,  what an event the Masked Teacher was last night! Most importantly, it was a great opportunity for a fundraiser for our much anticipated Sensory Room, but what a great evening. Our green space was buzzing: thank you so much to everyone who helped it happen; thank you to all the performers; and thank you for all the families who joined in the fun. Fabulous!

And finally, of course, good luck to both England and Spain for Sunday's Euro 2024 final!

End of year reports -  your child should have come home with their end of year school report today. If you need to discuss your report with your child's teacher, on Tuesday we are open for drop-ins to see class teachers between 3:30pm and 6pm.

Sports Day - next Wednesday is our annual Sports Day. Your child should have come home with a letter explaining what colour t-shirt they need. Please ensure you read the letter and send them into school wearing their assigned colour as part of their PE kit. This will ensure all team numbers are balanced. They will also need to bring in a packed lunch. Children will be able to be collected from the field after the afternoon register at 1pm.

Library update - The JKPS library is looking quite smart these days, and the children are borrowing and returning loads of great new books from the FoJKPS.  If you would like to make a donation to the library, the current need is for early readers, and they have expressed an interest in series such as Dragon, Shifty McGinty, Claude, Narwhal & Jelly, Dogman, and Captain Underpants.

From the Year 6 Residential

Year 6 had an incredible time on their residential trip this week. They embraced the wet weather and got involved in all the activities with lots of enthusiasm! The venue staff commented on what a great bunch they are and they truly deserved an adventure after all their hard work this year.

📱Smartphone-Cautious Childhood - JKPS Parent Survey

Last month, a few parents started a JKPS group as part of the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign that has sprung up across the UK recently. We would like to invite you to take part in a short survey to gauge opinion on our children owning smartphones. We're keen to hear everyone's views, whether you’ve already got your child a phone, are thinking about it, or want to know more about the issue.
Survey: https://forms.gle/RHHnt3E9PYcoK7AN9
The survey takes 5 minutes and is anonymous. Deadline: Sunday 21st July. We'll share a report of the findings with more resources on the topic in the last week of school. Thank you for taking the time to complete it.

Note from school: whilst at JKPS we advocate reducing screen time and educating around the health risks linked to smartphone usage, this is a parent-led initiative.

Friends Corner

What a busy and fun week at the school, with next year’s Reception children visiting the school, a very successful second hand bike sale and epic performances by the teachers at the Masked Teacher event. Well done to everyone, and a huge thank you for all the volunteers and donations made. Final fundraising for the sensory room is to be confirmed, but if you wish to still donate, you can do so here for this important resource for the children.

Anyone who purchased Tea Towels will start receiving this evening. There are a lot, so please bear with the team dedicated to sorting out all the years! Into the home straight to the end of term, see below the last few events of the year.
