Friday 15th November 2024

Dear Families,

On Tuesday, we held a Fire Drill. I would like to commend the children and staff for managing to evacuate the school so quickly and calmly. We typically hold these drills once term and they are an incredibly important part of us keeping the children safe. Next week, we will hold a lock-down drill. It is standard practise across all schools to hold these drills and we ensure we do it in a calm and measured manner, so as not to induce any anxiety in the children. For more information about our lock-down practise, see the Safeguarding section below.

To enable use to start the day promptly and have minimal disruption to learning, punctuality is really important. All children should be in school by 8:50am and to help the children have time to get up to their classes on time, we will now be opening our gates at the earlier time of 8:35am. Children arriving after this time, may now be registered as late.

Thank you to everyone who came in wearing odd socks on Tuesday and as part of anti-bullying week. We raised over £160 and Ms Phoebe, our PSHE lead, is going to spend the proceeds on books for the classrooms which promote positive friendships. Today, Years 1 to 6 had an assembly about Anti-Bullying and discussed one of our core school values - kindness. And thank you to all the children who took part in the Kindness Challenge over the half-term - you have raised £235 and still counting.

For the love of books and reading

{item_alt_tag}

Thank you, as always, to our brilliant team of library volunteers who give up so much of their time to keep our school library alive, tidy, stocked with the most popular up-to-date reads and, most importantly, helping ensure it has regular use. Thank you, in particular, to Claire, Laurie and Photini - your dedication and commitment is hugely appreciated.

Books are for sharing and we love and welcome the children borrowing books. Our only ask is for when they have finished reading them, to bring them back so that others can enjoy them too. If you have any books at home with the Mog stamp in them, please do return them to the box in the front office.

Thank you and keep reading!

In Early Years on Tuesday, the children in Reception celebrated national Michael Rosen Day. This day celebrated an amazing author that has brought so many magical stories to our classroom. We watched Michael Rosen himself acting out his famous ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ story and even saw a live streaming of Michael Rosen talking about his favourite stories with MC Grammar.

This inspired us to create our own ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ story maps with labels. You can listen to Micheal Rosen perform We're Going on a Bear Hunt below:

In Year 1 Human Biology, students had a blast exploring the question, "Do the oldest children have the biggest feet?" They measured their feet, recorded their results, and eagerly questioned whether age really affects foot size. This investigation helped them practice making scientific observations, asking questions, and using data to discover answers. We can’t wait to see the results next week!

This morning, Year 2 made a shocking discovery! Leading down from the roof stairs, were sets of various animal footprints. Using an identification booklet, they were able to identify most of them, including an elephant! One creature, however, remains a mystery. Their prediction is that it could be a bird...or maybe even a dinosaur!

Who knows what next week will reveal...

Safeguarding

{item_alt_tag}

Following an incident in Brockwell Park last weekend, please see the Clever Never Goes website for guidance on how to teach your child to stay safe from abduction, whether they are outside or online.

Lock-down Drills

Although the threat is low, all schools are expected to carry out practise lock-down drills as part of their health and safety compliance.

Our guidance, that we will be discussing with classes on Monday, is when the signal is sounded: students and staff who are inside the school should stay in the classrooms and not leave under any circumstances. External doors and windows are locked, and internal classroom doors may also be locked. After the drill, we will give the children an opportunity to reflect.

Attendance

{item_alt_tag}

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.
