Friday 13th December 2024

Dear Families,

Thank you so much to the FoJKPS for battling through the weather to put on such a lovely Winter Fair last Saturday, and thank you to all volunteers and to everyone who attended. It was a wonderful community event.

The festive season has been in full swing this week. Reception performed a heart-warming adaptation of The Polar Express - such wonderful singing! - and Nursery added a touch of rock 'n' roll to their rendition of Christmas songs, alongside other songs they have been singing with Mr Rhys as part of their learning.

And speaking of rock, how brilliant were the RockSteady concerts on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Such an incredible achievement for the bands to be playing their first concert after just three months of learning together!

And for something different, how brilliant to watch the Y6's practising their Tango dancing on the astro turf with Coach Leo this morning!

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Free on-road cycle training available via Southwark and Lambeth.

We’ve been made aware of some free cycle training by our local Safer Neighbourhood Team. For those who would like to feel more confident cycling to school on the roads with their child instead of on pavements, Cycle Confident's free cycle training programme (available in cooperation with Southwark and Lambeth) introduces children to cycling in an age-appropriate way.

If as a parent or carer, you don't feel cycle-ready and are female, Southwark cooperates with a programme called 'JoyRiders' which provides free group cycle rides for women. Join up for a group ride and they'll even lend you a bike.

Staffing updates

We are very much looking forward to Ms Sophie joining the German team in January. She will be here on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support with German provision on those days.

Y3 - from January, Ms Keziah and Ms Georgia W  will be sharing Ruby Bridges Class to enable Ms Alice to focus more on her role as Deputy Headteacher.

Y2 - as Ms Georgia W will be moving out of Y2, we are expecting to appoint a new teacher next week for Marcus Rashford Class to start from January.

Y1 - Ms Ellen will be moving back to Ireland after the Spring half-term. This means we are looking to recruit a Y1 class teacher to start after Spring 1.

From Nursery

Today in Nursery we’ve had a festive filled day. We’ve been learning the story of the nativity, identifying the key characters and discussing the meaning behind different parts of the story.

Following this, we made baby Jesus pictures by using forks to scrape yellow and orange paint to represent hay. The children were all quite perplexed at the idea of painting with a fork. We used corks to stamp circles, putting them together to make a Christmas tree. They came out really well and they all deserve a place in the Tate Modern. We’ve all had a wonderful day together, a brilliant Friday to end the week.

Year 1 students have been busy getting into the festive spirit by creating beautiful Christmas wreaths in class. This hands-on craft activity followed their learning about Advent in Religious Education, where they explored the meaning and traditions of this special season. The children enjoyed bringing their creativity to life while reflecting on the significance of Advent for Christians as they prepared for Christmas.

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Pre-loved Uniform

At JKPS we have a uniform so that children feel relaxed in their clothes and no one worries about pens or paint getting on their ‘best’ jumper or trousers. We encourage parents to take part in the pre-loved uniform sale - this helps us minimise our environmental impact and also provides some funds via the Friends. As well as saving parents some money.

There will be a sale early next term, if you need anything in the meantime please get in touch with Claire Wren on WhatsApp (07730-433-519). There are plenty of jumpers, cardigans, polo t-shirts, trousers, skirts and pinafore.

We always need donations of clip hangers to help organise the trousers and skirts. If you are having a clear out before Christmas and have one or two, please drop off at the office.

And do check out our amazing new lost property cupboard. Thank you so much to the FoJKPS who built it for us.

Please do check for any lost items.

Friends Corner

And relax… what a term! 🧑‍🎄

Thank you so much to everyone for pulling together to hold the Winter Fair in the most challenging circumstances of Storm Darragh on Saturday! ⛈️A big thanks to Ioana for organising the joyful gingerbread house workshop on Friday night. And special thanks to Luke and Easton from Nightingale Gardening who delivered 18 trees by zero-emissions cargo bikes in the howling gale.

Our initial figures suggest we raised over £6,000 from all our festive efforts to go towards the early years space, and the year 6 team raised over £600 towards the graduation plans.
