Dear Families,

Happy New Year! Frohes Neues Jahr!

It has been wonderful as always welcoming the children back this week and what a positive start the children have had. The children have got stuck straight back into their learning with lots of creative activities helping immerse the children in their new texts and topics.

On Monday's INSET day,  we started the year looking at the Action for Happiness calendar which offers daily activities that you or your child can do to improve your wellbeing. See below for more information.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

A message from Keyworth Primary following our Shoe Box drive before Christmas: "thank everyone at Judith Kerr again for their kindness and generosity in creating the present boxes. The smiles on the children's faces were wonderful to see!"

As part of her master's course, Ms Lily, one of our members of support staff, is looking for a volunteer who would like to take part in an infant observation. The observations consist of a mum and their baby being observed for 1 hour a week from birth to age two. If you are interested in taking part, or know someone who might be, please email her here.

Nursery places for September 2025

Nursery Siblings: If you are interested in a sibling place for Nursery for September 2025 a please email admissions@judithkerr.anthemtrust.uk to register interest. Please note your child must be three years of age before 31st August 2024 in order for them to start in September. We have had a lot of interest already and as siblings take priority we would like to know how many other children we can accommodate.

Start the year with Action For Happiness with some great ideas that you might be able to incorporate into you and your child's daily routine.  Click here for the German version.

What's been happening around school this week...

Mr Rhys in Nursery says - "This week we have learnt about louis braille and him inventing Braille, we learnt about the number 3, we celebrated new year's eve and had a countdown and mini party, we received a letter from Northern Ireland, we learnt about vertices, we learnt the sound D and practiced drawing it on paper, with water and in sand, we started learning about traditional tales and sequencing by sequencing stories and songs we know and we practised drawing facial features by drawing a face for one of the three bears (amongst other things)."

Happy Hannukah! Today in Reception we had a parent volunteer come in and talk about the celebration of Hannukah. We learnt the story of Hannukah and even got to hold a Menorah and some dreidels. We then made our own Menorah's on the art table. A huge thank you to our parent volunteer.

In Year 1 History, the children explored the world of toys, both new and historic, by drawing their own teddy bears. Using a special drawing camera for instruction, this engaging activity sparked their creativity and excitement for their new topic about the evolution of toys!

There's been loads of excitement and wonderful creativity in Year 2, where they've been immersing themselves in their new Literacy text, Dear Earth.

Meanwhile. Year 6's have been immersing themselves into their new humanities topic 'the changing lives of women'. Ms Rosa says, "We begun to study the art style of illustrator David Roberts and created our own sketched portraits of women throughout history. Our next steps were to paint these and design headwear to match the time period."

A very warm welcome to Ms Sophie who has officially joined our German teaching team this week. She will be working with children from Early Years to Year 4 on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Ms Sophie is already known to many of the children as she also works at the German Kindergarten in North Dulwich.

From the Anthem Community Council

In case you missed the email yesterday, we would like to hear from as many of you as possible to help us understand as many views as we can. This can help us set our local priorities and make sure we are hearing a representation of parent/ carer voices. Please complete the FORM here. The form should take between 5 and 10 minutes to fill in. Thank you.

Friends Corner
