Friday 7th March 2025

Dear Families,

What a day it's been - we've had foxes and wolves, and dalmatians and mogs, Potters and witches and wizards and so many more characters from the wonderful world of books and imaginary places. And lovely to see children also feeling happy to just come into school wearing something comfy. See below for more about our World Book Day celebrations and read our Whole School Story.

Next week, we will have a more low key focus on science week. We're hoping for a visit from our favourite local astronomer and would still love for any scientists in our community to come in to talk to some of the children. If you're a scientist and might be available to pop in at the start or end of the school day, please do still get in touch via the admin email.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the parent/ carer teacher meetings on Wednesday. These are such a valuable opportunity to catch up about your child's progress in school. if you didn't manage to schedule a meeting, please contact your child's class teacher via the admin email.

I neglected to mention in last week's newsletter our visit from our German partner school in Köln during half-term. Thank you to Ms Rebecca and Coach Leo doing such a brilliant job of hosting (I bet they didn't expect to be learning the tango on their visit to London!), thank you to the Year 5's for being so welcoming, and thank you to Katrin and former parent Regina for the scones and sandwiches! See below for more about the visit.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Safeguarding reminder: please do not prop open the external gates into school, they need to be kept closed at all times other than at pick-up and drop-off.

The Mog Chronicle team has been LOVING all your outfits today for World Book Day. If you're especially proud of yours, please enter our competition! We want you (or your parents) to email us your best World Book Day picture. We will pick the winner, interview them and announce it in the Mog Chronicle!
Please email your photos to mogchronicle@gmail.com

How appropriate that during the week we are celebrating World Book Day that we should have two budding writers winning awards for talented writing, part of the Young Writers 2025 competition. A massive well done to Lily (Y3) and Emily (Y6) for this brilliant achievement. Both will have their work published in this year's Young Writers' Anthology.

World Book Day

It's been two days of activities celebrating books and reading, from shared reading between some of the older children and younger children, a staff reading relay across the school and today's dressing up or dressing comfy. Thank you to our Reading Lead Ms Amy and all those who took part or contributed.

Meanwhile in Early Years...

The reception children have been having their first forest school sessions with Ms Katrin. Nelson Mandela Class have practised getting all their warm clothes on - so many layers!. They began the session introducing themselves and sharing the forest school promises (that keep us safe and respect nature) for example how we carry different-sized branches behind us - which they all promised to keep to and then it was time to explore! Lots of fun was had exploring the forest with each other. The rain did come, but not that anyone was that worried! We looked for the early signs of spring, played a game of pirate ships, cooked in the kitchen with the pots and pans, built dens when the rain came, visited the tree house and built a home for the bugs. Next week find out what Rosa Parks Class have been up to...

Safeguarding

{item_alt_tag}

Next week we have an assembly in school on how to stay safe around strangers. Here is a really useful resource we are re-sharing giving useful tips on how to stay safe using the Clever Never Goes approach.

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Deutschecke

During the half-term, we had a visit from our partner school, Gemeinschaftsgrundschule Garthestraße in Köln. The Year 5's had a fabulous day hosting them and the children loved having the opportunity to meet their penpals.
