Friday 28th March 2025

Dear Families,

Over the past weeks, we have started introducing new games and activities to help with more structured play at lunchtimes. The children have loved some of the skipping games, parachute activities and chalking. Thank you Ms Donna for helping drive this well-being initiative for our play-times.

Please note, Clubs for Summer term will go live on Monday 31st March at 20:00. Please carefully read the letter sent, as we have made some minor changes to booking since last term.

Eid Mubarak! to all those in our community celebrating Eid ul Fitr this weekend. Find out more about how Eid is celebrated here.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Year 6 Fundraising: Our Year 6's are out and about at drop off and pick ups selling raffle tickets. All funds raised go towards their end of year graduation and fun activities. £3 a ticket the prizes are quite spectacular! If you need to pay by card Fridays are the day, look out for the adults helping the Year 6's. Good luck!

Clothing: As the weather has got warmer, the coats, jumpers and cardigans have been scattered across the school grounds. There is a significant amount of lost property including a large amount unnamed. Could all families make some time next week to check lost property for stray items. On Wednesday, all unnamed coats and non-uniform clothing will be removed to be donated to a local charity shop, and sandwich and snack boxes will be thrown away or donated too.

As ever, our ask is that everything is named: this gives things the very best chance to come back to you. You can order name labels at: www.mynametags.com using the school ID (104964) at checkout with a percentage donated back to JKPS. Or a black pen on the inside of the collar works too!

Gardening day this Saturday, 29th March, 11am - 3pm.

Please feel welcome to come down and join the team on the next phase of spring gardening!

Taking learning outdoors

We are so fortunate with our outdoor space at JKPS. Whilst Early Years have been having their regular Forest School activities, this week Year 1 have been using the forest area to support our outdoor learning. Ms Natalie writes: "This week, we read the story 'Stanley's Stick' written by John Hegley. Stanley finds a special stick which turns into lots of things like a fishing rod, a whistle... During our forest school session, we found our own sticks which we decorated with thread, masking tape, natural materials and colours. We then turned our magical sticks into lots of different objects like a shiny spoon for stirring tea and musical saxophones!" Needless to say, the children loved it.

Meanhwiile, Year 3 got outside for some of their science lesson to test their hypothesis that the length of your femur helps you jump further. Ask them what they learnt!

Lunchtimes

Some of you may be aware that we have adjusted our lunchtime routines recently to bring them more in line with our routines throughout the school. This means that, rather than ringing the bell, in the interest of having calmer routines and transitions outside, children are now called in using hands-up signals and visual cues before they line up to come in. This reinforces the established routines we have inside school for learning time and transitions throughout the day. Outdoor supervisors are then vigilant about ensuring all children come in with their year group.

If you do have a concern about your child and lunchtime, please contact their class teacher in the first instance.

Attendance

{item_alt_tag}

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Friends Corner

Thanks to all who joined our AGM last night, and for everyone’s ongoing support. We said farewell to Celeste and Jane and welcomed our new Co-Chairs Stef Weinmann and Claire Wren. Paula has stepped down as Co-Chair but will remain on the Council. If you missed it, you can find the slides on our website. We’re looking forward to getting started on planning for the Summer Term!

🇩🇪🍰We’re excited to announce that we raised an amazing £1.5k from last week’s Kaffee und Kuchen pop-up café and around £500 from this week’s quiz night, thanks so much to everyone who ate, drank or quizzed. Congratulations to the winning quiz team (see above) Quiztöpher Columbus who took the prize of a game of Sixes cricket plus food and drink, generously donated by Andy Waugh 🙏. Proceeds from both events will go towards supporting German interns to return to JKPS and helping cover the Year 6 Goethe Institut test fees.

🌳Join us at our final Gardening Day of this term tomorrow, from 11am to 3pm. Come along and have some fun in the sun (we hope!) and enjoy pottering in the garden as it heads into Spring.

🚴‍♀️ Peddle My Wheels’second-hand bike market is next Thursday 3rd April 3:30pm - 4:30pm. Donate an outgrown or unwanted bike in the morning, then come along at pick-up to buy a “new” one. All bike donations will be fixed up by a team of mechanics throughout the day and made ready for sale. Proceeds from the sale of donated bikes will go to the school.

Ioana, a Reception parent, has been working hard on setting up a JKPS Tonies Club, a parent-led initiative aiming to increase access to quality content and stimulate language development through stories and singing. It’s designed as a rental model - if you’d be interested please respond to this quick survey so we can get an idea of numbers and plan the logistics!
