Friday 9th May 2025

Dear Families,

It's that time of year when our Year 6 children get to shine. I would like to offer a huge shout-out to our absolutely brilliant Year 6 team - Ms Lauren, Ms Rosa, Ms Donna and Ms Lily who have done so much to prepare the children for their Year 6 SATS next week. And good luck to all the Y6 children - everyone of you should be incredibly proud of how hard you have worked this year. It was lovely to see the children enjoy some all-important downtime in the garden this afternoon, preparing themselves mentally and emotionally for the week ahead.

Thank you to everyone who came into school for the ACC Survey Feedback meeting yesterday. The survey gave us incredibly valuable insights into our school and yesterday was a valuable opportunity to share some of the results, to celebrate all the things we love about our school, and to discuss what actions we can take/are taking to make it even better. If you weren't able to attend but wanted to, please be assured that there will be similar events in the future.

In our assemblies today we discussed VE day and discussed why it so important to reflect on key moments in our history and appreciate why Individual Liberty is such a core British value. There are some great resources on the BBC website if you would like to discuss this further with your child.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Year 1 at JAGS' Singing Festival!

Our Year 1's were among 6 schools performing songs at this year's JAG's singing festival this week! We sang our solo song...'Can't wait to be King!' which we learnt actions for then enjoyed singing alongside the other schools, particularly the song 'Cover me in sunshine'! Well done to our Year 1's and thank you to Mr Aiden and all the team for preparing the children for this lovely event.

What's been happening in school...

Lovely to see the Y5 buddy reading continue with the Reception children. Every day is a day to celebrate books at JKPS!

Author visits: we were thrilled to welcome authors Joseph Elliott and Frann Preston-Gannon for a special visit. Frann led a fun and creative draw-along with Year 2 and 3 based on her book Little Lim and the Golden Treasure. The children loved bringing the characters to life through drawing. Joseph introduced his exciting new book, Nora and the Compass of Chaos. He shared fascinating details about the characters and explained how books are made—from first ideas to finished copies.

A BIG shout out to Ms Donna, who every week delivers brilliant ELSA sessions for Year 1. Thank, Ms Donna...you're our star!!!

ELSA Session - Superheroes! Who's your superhero?

In our whole class ELSA sessions, which help us with our emotional literacy and regulating our emotions, we focused on everyday superheroes like doctors, nurses, firefighters and our family. We drew in our stars who we see as our superhero! Lots of us recognised our family members as superheroes helping us each day with care and kindness!

Year 5 learned about the experiences of children evacuated during World War II. They wrote letters from the perspective of an evacuee who had been sent from the city to the countryside. In their writing, they described the journey, who took them in, and how they felt being away from home.

Deutschecke

Goethe Institut Tests: each year, our Year 6 children have the opportunity to sit an A1 or A2 language test. The language test corresponds to the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Languages (CEFR). Find out more about the tests here.

Thank you to all those who attended this morning's Year 6 event to find out a little bit more about the tests that our Year 6's will sit at the end of June.

Friends Corner

The Friends have a number of projects underway with the support of the SLT. Progress continues on the Sensory Room, but as we move to completion attention is turning to the next project. Over the coming weeks you will hear more about the Early Years Area while planning on a re-fit of the library is in the early stages. All of these projects take both financial support as well as significant professional support from the parent community.

The Summer Picnic (28th June) will also raise money for the Early Years Area. Thank you in advance to Paula Rocktäscel for leading the charge - as ever volunteers to help very welcome.

With the sun out (again!), there will be a Pre-Loved Uniform sale on Friday 23rd May at pick up (the Friday before Half Term): an opportunity to save some money, help the planet and contribute to the Friends. If you have friends joining in Reception or Nursery please also pass along that there will be a pre-loved uniform sale at the welcome picnics.
