Dear Families,

Eid Muburak! Wishing all those celebrating Eid today and this weekend a wonderful Eid ul-Adha! In this afternoon's assembly, we explored the importance of this Muslim festival and how It reminds us of the strong faith of Prophet Ibrahim and how he trusted Allah completely. Read more about what the festival means here.

So often when we talk about the strengths of JKPS, people refer to the strength of our community. That message resounds amongst staff, children and our families and friends. But what does it mean to be part of a strong community? Above all, it has to be about coming together: to support each other; to ensure everyone feels they belong; to celebrate success; and, perhaps most importantly, to overcome challenges. To me this has always encapsulated the strength of our community whilst echoing our values of Justice, Kindness, Perserverance and Spirit. We should never stop reminding ourselves of the importance of these values because they are what bring us together to give us an inclusive community, and they are what we want our children to take away from their time at JKPS.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

They tackled the compost, Katrin created a “digging patch” for the children in the forest, the young plants are growing well, and they have followed #NoMowMay bring out beautiful flowers and long grass, much needed food for bees and other wildlife in the city.

Thank you to our incredible Year 3 litter-pickers, who this week have taken the initiative to collect litter around the playground and put it in its rightful place. As we shared in our assembly, this is also a reminder of others not to drop their rubbish!

 Hatching chicks in Reception and Dragons in KS1

Reception and Nursery have had some exciting visitors this week. They have created so many opportunities for new vocabulary and discussions about life cycles for the children. There have also been a lot of 'awwws' from the staff!

Meanwhile, there have been rumours of dragons in and around school. Year 2 spent much of Monday investigating mysterious dragon footprints, whilst Year 1 were left shocked on their arrival in school...  There were strange sounds...almost like deep breathing and roaring! They stumbled across a burnt letter from an unknown! The letter left them clues to who / what they could be and they used their detective skills to predict who could have come into our classroom using 'because' to justify our reasoning!

Collaborative Review Day #3

As part of our wider community, this week we had our third Collaborative Review Day of the year, where leaders from across Anthem came to visit us. They explored some key lines of enquiry set by the school and fed back to us on their findings. This time the focus was largely on Writing, Maths and Inclusion. There was some really useful feedback from the day, celebrating many of the successes across the school, as well as useful next steps for us to work on in the coming year. Look out in particular for a renewed focus on maths fluency, a key component of our Mastery approach. More about what that means soon but if you are interested in learning more, watch here.

No-hands-up

You may have heard your children discussing our no-hands-up policy and I understand there has been some confusion about this. We have promoted a no-hands-up policy for several years now. A "no hands up" policy in a classroom encourages all students to engage with questions and participate in discussions. It aims to ensure that every student is actively thinking and contributing, rather than relying on a few volunteers.

Attendance

{item_alt_tag}

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.
