Dear Families,

As we come to the end of our eighth week of the Autumn Term, it certainly feels like there’s a strong case for a two-week half-term! A huge well done and thank you to all our children and staff for everything they’ve achieved so far this academic year. Everyone deserves a very well-earned rest!

And a big thank you as well to our wonderful Friends of JKPS and community volunteers, who do so much for our school — not only for treating the staff to such a delicious breakfast this morning, but for everything they do throughout the year. We’re incredibly excited about the imminent opening of our newly refurbished school library and all the fantastic things still to come! - see Friends Corner below...

With Kindness Week in full swing, the school has been buzzing with wonderful acts of kindness! Don’t forget about the Kindness Challenge over the half-term break. The rules are simple: students carry out acts of kindness during the break — these can be ideas shared in assemblies this week. or their own creative ideas.

Each student should be sponsored for their acts of kindness. If someone would like to sponsor a student, they can simply scan the QR code below to donate via the challenge’s JustGiving page.

Schöne Herbstferien!

Last weekend, some of our Year 5's performed at the Herne Hill Festival in a musical spectacle - The Last of the Boggarts. The tale told how the last of the boggarts left Herne Hill to wander the world in search of other work. Well done to all the children who did themselves proud. And thank you to Mr Aiden and those parents who supported the venture.

Not sure what a boggart is? FInd out more about these supernatural beings from English Folklore.

In our assemblies this afternoon, we celebrated all the acts of kindness around the school this week, as well as those children who are role models for our values. Well done to all these wonderful children, they should be deservedly proud!

Staffing Update

We are sad to say farewell to Ms Keziah (Y5) today and thank her for everything she has brought to Judith Kerr over the years. We wish her all the best in her new ventures. Ms Stephanie will be taking over Emmeline Pankhurst Class for the second half of the Autumn Term.

We are also saying goodbye to Ms Victoria P. We wish her well and thank her for the support she has given the children in EY and KS1 over the past two years. Mr Zack will be joining Frida Kahlo Class after half-term.

What's happening around school

The spotlight has definitely been on Year 6 this week, with the incredible playground designs they have created. The pictures speak for themselves - what an incredibly creative and intuitive group they are. So proud too, to show them off in an exihibition to some of the other classes.

Oci from Let's Go Zero, a charity supporting schools to be more environmental, came in to speak to Eco School! She inspired us to think BIG and come up with action plan ideas of what our school could do better in order to help the environment! We focused on discussions and we will present our best ideas to the school after half term.

Oci also spent time with Ms Celeste, Mr Donncha (parent/carer eco representatives), Chef Lindsey, Mr Alex (maintenance lead), Ms Natalie (Eco Lead) and Mr Patrick to support the school in creating a realistic action plan to be more ecofriendly!

KS1 Perform Workshops:  KS1 were lucky to be transported to ancient times to a mysterious castle to find a magical sword!!!They became butterflies, dragons and many other mysterious creatures along the adventure and quest. They managed to defeat the dragon and Morgan the Fay!

Dheeraj 'I loved when we got to play the opposite game.'

David 'I liked when we sneaked up to try and get the sword.'

Inspired by Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max, Year 1 have also been thinking about our dream jobs and why we think we want to pursue those careers. They discussed how Astrid, in Astro Girl, dreams to be an astronaut because she is fascinated by stars!  They discussed how some of us want to be scientists because we want to discover new things that could help people get better, some of us wrote that inventors were the best job - others disagreed and wrote that they wish to be in the sporting industry!

Black History Month

As part of our Black History Month celebrations, Year 6 have been learning about the Windrush Generation and the important contributions they made to life in Britain. We have explored the text 'Windrush child' and transported ourselves into the role of Leonard – the main character in our story. We wrote letters to our 'dad' who has moved to England after being invited

SEND Update

Hello from the New SENDCo!

I’m Beverley, and I’m really excited to have joined Judith Kerr Primary School as the new SENDCo. It’s been a fantastic first week — everyone has been so welcoming, and it’s clear that this is a school where children are happy and curious learners.

Over the next few weeks, I’m looking forward to getting to know our children and families, and working closely with staff to build on the great work already happening here.

{item_alt_tag}

Please do say hello if you see me around school, or get in touch if you’d like a chat about your child’s support.  Over the next few weeks in November, I’m planning to have one-to-ones with parents of children on the SEN register first. Just now though I’m getting familiar with all the children, staff, parents and professionals working as part of the SEND team here (internal and external). I look forward to partnering with you and to helping make sure every child with additional needs has what they need to thrive.

Best wishes,
Beverley
SENDCo

Library Renovation
A massive thank you to the various volunteers who have helped with the library renovation, as well as all the work from Alex on the staff team.
There was a final push this morning, with the work overseen by Anna Geldart (year 2 parent) who has been leading the charge and kindly contributing her professional skills. It is newly painted and decorated, with some new shelves on one side and books back in and refreshed.
We still have planned the inclusion of some art work, as well as some bespoke joinery on the other side. But it is back up and running with a formal re-opening after Half Term. It is now ready for 2026: a National Year of Reading.
