 Friday 9th January 2026

Dear Families,

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

2026 at JKPS got off to a great start on Monday with our INSET day, where staff continued their work on developing an anti-racist culture during a thought-provoking workshop led by @Embrace. We then headed outside for some outdoor games led by Coach Leo, learning more about the range of activities we can enjoy on our astroturf in preparation for developing the games children chose at playtime. It was a perfect January day and wonderful to see the team so engaged and energised.

On Tuesday, it was lovely to welcome the children back to school, refreshed and full of enthusiasm for the New Year, with lots of thoughtful New Year’s resolutions to share – see below.

As always, there’s plenty coming up this term, so please do keep an eye on the dates and events throughout the newsletter.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

New singing opportunity in the City of London, starting in January 2026. The Temple City Singers is a new choir for children in years 2-6, run by the music department of Temple Church. Singing is a wonderful way for children to learn new musical skills. The skills young musicians learn aren't just musical though: they develop literacy skills, meet new friends, and learn to be part of a team. All valuable skills to support all learning.

The members of the choir will perform in the historic Temple Church, renowned for its musical education and heritage, as well as in many stunning City churches.

Register interest at yvette@templechurch.com

What's happening in school

Science Detectives

In Year 1, we are learning about materials and their properties.

We went on an explore around the classroom and playground to identify different materials we spied and their purpose!

KS2 have spent some time this week discussing their New Year resolutions. This made for great discussion and there were some brilliant resolutions, from trying to spend more time outside, to helping out our friends, to being kind and... to being helpful to parents!

Friends Corner

Welcome back to school - we hope everyone managed to stay warm and well over the Christmas Period.

Kaffee & Kuchen Pop-up 23rd Jan - this year the Shout Out for German week is in just two weeks. If you would like to be part of the organising committee for the Kaffee und Kuchen Pop Up, please join the whatsapp group here:

https://chat.whatsapp.com/JXRI5GnTRPb4i3olEa41j6

We will be raising money for the bilingual signage in school - which is starting to look a little old. We are also looking for an external charity to raise funds for as part of our engagement with the wider community.

Please be ready to bake a German/Austrian style cake or three! And to eat them.

Get Involved with the Friends

If you would like to get more involved or just have an idea, members of the committee are always pleased to have an excuse for a coffee. Please reach out either via whatsapp to Claire Wren (07730-433-519) or the Friends e-mail address. We are particularly looking for people who are interested in working up some sporting events.

Pre-loved Ski Clothes & Uniform Sale

Alongside Kaffee und Kuchan we are holding a second hand ski clothes sale.

If you also had a growth spurt over Christmas, please leave (clean and use-able) second hand uniform with Jodie.

Big Bird Watch and Gardening

The first Gardening day of the year is on the RSPB Big Bird Watch Weekend - while we do see amazing birds in our lovely garden, we will probably be a bit too loud that day to spot many birds. Instead we are planning on making some bird feeders for children to take home instead. Please put it in your diary.
