Friday 20th September 2024

Dear Families,

We were a week late, and sorry for the disruption last Friday, but it was wonderful to see our new Reception cohort inaugurated officially into JKPS with their fabulous Schultüte parade this afternoon. Everyone of them was shining and those Schultüten get more impressive every year! Wunderbar!

On Wednesday this week, it was great to welcome some leaders from across Anthem into school as part of our first Collaborative Review Day (CRD) of the year. We have three CRD's during the academic year, where we work with leaders from across the trust to review and set improvement targets for our school's development. It was both a positive and constructive day and led to really useful discussion around teaching and learning.

See our Deutschecke below from some very exciting news following last year's Goethe Insitut exams...

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Reminder: Parent/Carer-Teacher Evening is scheduled for Wednesday, 2nd October. Meetings will be held between 1pm and 7pm. We will send out a link for booking next week.

Punctuality: please do aim to ensure that your child is in school by 8:50am. After this time, we will close the side doors and they will need to come in through the office. After 9am, they will be registered as late.

Ad Hoc Club Bookings: Unfortunately, due to clubs being at capacity we are not currently able to accommodate ad hoc after-school bookings. We are, however, still able to accommodate ad hoc breakfast club bookings.

Property: please remember to label clothing - particularly jumpers and fleeces - so that it can easily be returned to the rightful owner if lost.

As part of author Jim Smith's visit next week, there will be a book stall after school on Friday where he will be signing copies of his new book. All pre-ordered books will have each child's name post-it noted on to it to make signing easier for Jim.

SEND Coffee Mornings

JKPS are proud to release the dates for the SEN parent/carer coffee mornings for this academic year. The coffee mornings are a great opportunity to connect with other families, share experiences, and find support in a welcoming environment. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee while engaging in insightful discussions about the challenges and triumphs of raising a child with special educational needs. This is a great opportunity to exchange tips, listen and meet professionals, share resources, and foster friendships within our community. All are welcome and we'd love to see you there. For our first meeting:

🗓️ Date: 23/10/2024
🕒 Time: 9:15-10:30
📍 Location: JKPS Bottom Floor Hall

Agenda - as set by you: SEN Support/EHCP Pathways

Whether you’re looking for advice or just a friendly chat, we can’t wait to see you there!

This week in school...

The children in Reception have had a busy week learning about pattern and colour in maths this week. They have been making repeating patterns with numicon, natural materials and even each other! In literacy, they have worked together to create giant Mogs for their classrooms, following their story of the week 'Mog's Birthday', where they also wrote a list of items Mog might need to celebrate!

In Nursery, they have been composing their own 'welcome to school' song accompanied by Mr Rhys on his guitar, which is absolutely adorable. They've also been exploring different percussion instruments, to accompany their song!

Well done early years, what fabulous learning!

Deutschecke

Congratulations to our last year's Year 6 cohort!

Each year our Year 6's have the opportunity to sit either the A1 or A2 language exam at the Goethe Institute. This is an internationally accredited language proficiency test. In July two thirds of our cohort chose to sit the test and 100% of them passed! What a fabulous achievement and well done to all our German team - Ms Julia, Ms Andrea, Ms Niya, Ms Rebecca and Ms Sabine. Fantastisch!

Following on from Waldeinsamkeit (the feeling of being alone in the woods), here's another fun word which is also the title of a book our Year 2's have been reading:

Die Bestimmer

Literally this means, 'the people who (think they) are in charge'.

Feel free to send in any other words you know that don't have literal translations into English and we can share them next week.

Thanks to everyone who came to our gardening day last weekend, so much effort went into tidying the green space ahead of next weekends’ Oktoberfest. It’s looking beautiful!
