Friday 7th June 2024

Dear Families,

Welcome back for our final half-term of the year. There is lots happening, so do look carefully at the dates coming up over the term.

Next week we will be sharing who the new teachers for September will be and we are extremely excited to be inviting some of our new starters in for an induction day next Wednesday. They will have an opportunity to get to know a bit more about us as a school, meet some of the staff and children, and start thinking about next year. There will be a further opportunity later in the term when all teachers will get to spend time with their new classes ahead of next year.

As part of our PSHE curriculum, later in the term we will be focusing on the relationships and sex education (RSE) aspect of this programme. Please follow this link to find out more about the programme and about how you can support your child. There will also be a workshop linked to this at 9am on Friday, 21st June.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Messages for the week:

Included in the summer dates below, are the dates for each year group's summer productions. You will receive an email closer to each event - Year 1 families, look out for a message next week about the production on 21st June!

Bikes and storage: be mindful of others when using the bike storage space. We actively encourage cycling and scootering and so please ensure the storage spaces are used with consideration for others, optimising the space available. Do also avoid leaving bikes and/ or scooters overnight.

In other news...

Huge congratulations to Otis for winning the SE London and Kent under 9's cup with his club, Dulwich Hamlets FC! What a fantastic achievement.

(If your child has achieved something amazing recently, we'd love to hear about it!)

Reception trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery

Children used ink and pressing machines to print designs on their own flowers. They had an amazing time looking around the galleries and identified the differences between portrait and landscape paintings. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who supported us on the trip.

Well done to Iris, Nico, Josto and Matilda (all Y3)!

Deutschecke

At JKPS, we celebrate being able to speak more than one language. Have you ever wondered about the benefits of bilingualism? Learn about the benefits here.

What a lovely example of writing from one of our Year 4 German learners where the children have been writing penpal letters.

Wunderbar, Milo!

And this week's Zungenbrecher to try!

Am zehnten zehnten um zehn Uhr zehn zogen zehn zahme Ziegen zehn Zentner Zucker zum Zoo

It means: On 10th October, at 10.10am, 10 tame goats pulled 10 centners (about 50kilos) of sugar to the zoo.

In German, “z” is pronounced “ts”.

Friends Corner

Welcome back to the busiest half term of the year! We have loads coming up to look forward to - head here to find out more.

🌻 Summer Picnic Saturday 22nd June 12pm till 4pm.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! There are quite a few gaps on the sign up zone - especially with the waffles and games - so please do sign up to help out, we can’t do it without you. It’s shaping up to be a brilliant day, filled with music performances from the kids, theatre and lots of games and arts & crafts. We’re looking forward to some fun and laughter in the hopefully sunny school grounds!

🌻 Sports Day Wednesday 17th July 9:30am - 2pm at The Griffin Sports Ground.
We still need 10 more people to help out on the day - please sign up here and we will be in touch with more details.

🌻 Save the date - on Wednesday 24th July the school are holding a fun afternoon (to include games, face painting and a disco) for the children, from around 12pm till 3pm. We’re finalising the sign-up sheet for this but will need people to help 🙏.

🌳And finally please join us at tomorrow’s gardening day, any time between 11am and 3pm. The garden is beautiful at the moment - very lush and in full bloom! Please do feel very welcome to come along and spend some time together outside, there might be even some berries for the children to pick 🍓.

Childcare Vouchers and Government Tax Free Payments

This is a gentle reminder that Childcare Vouchers and Government Tax Free Payments can only be used to pay for JKPS run clubs and childcare. Trips, uniforms etc. need to be paid for using an alternative payment method through MagicBooking.

Recruiting bilingual and monolingual children for an academic research study

Neuropsychology PhD student, Chun Lim (Goldsmiths) is researching how bilingualism affects our decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

He is seeking participants aged 6-11 and 50+—both bilingual and monolingual— to join for a one-hour study. Participants will engage in decision-making tasks, problem-solving challenges, and reaction tests, all conducted on a laptop.

If interested, or you know someone who might be, contact him at cpan002@gold.ac.uk.
