Dear Families,
Following last week's thoughts about community, in our assembly for KS1 and KS2 this afternoon we started discussing what it means to be a refugee and how, as communities, can support and welcome refugees. This is ahead of Refugee Week, the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience, and creativity of refugees. Children have been encouraged to reflect on what we can do to ensure those who have been forced to flee their homes are welcomed into our communities. Do discuss this with your child. There are lots of useful resources available to support these discussions on the Red Cross website: Refugees and Migration and Every Refugee Matters. This is all the more poignant knowing that our late patron Judith Kerr was a refugee when she fled Nazi Germany. Read more about her story here.
Well done to the choir, Year 3's and Year 4's for their wonderful concert this morning. We had beautiful singing, brilliant recorders (Y3) and fantastic ukuleles (Y4). And thank you to Mr Aiden for working so hard with the children - they should be incredibly proud of themselves and it was a perfect start to the weekend.
Schönes Wochenende!
Patrick
