Friday 13th June 2025

Dear Families,

Following last week's thoughts about community, in our assembly for KS1 and KS2 this afternoon we started discussing what it means to be a refugee and how, as communities, can support and welcome refugees. This is ahead of Refugee Week, the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience, and creativity of refugees. Children have been encouraged to reflect on what we can do to ensure those who have been forced to flee their homes are welcomed into our communities. Do discuss this with your child. There are lots of useful resources available to support these discussions on the Red Cross website: Refugees and Migration and Every Refugee Matters. This is all the more poignant knowing that our late patron Judith Kerr was a refugee when she fled Nazi Germany. Read more about her story here.

Well done to the choir, Year 3's and Year 4's for their wonderful concert this morning. We had beautiful singing, brilliant recorders (Y3) and fantastic ukuleles (Y4). And thank you to Mr Aiden for working so hard with the children - they should be incredibly proud of themselves and it was a perfect start to the weekend.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Green action and the Eco Council

The Great Big Green Week has been a celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Thank you to Ms Natalie and the Eco Council!

We have been celebrating Great Big Green Week by being more environmentally conscious! And we have been busy, this week...

  • we sent off our wonderful 'Walk to School' travel diaries, fingers crossed we may win a prize from Southwark Council

  • every class had one of their lessons outside to celebrate the benefits of our wonderful environment! Year 1 had an interactive instruction lesson outside learning how to douse a dragon! Year 4 enjoyed mindful reading outdoors.

  • Eco School Representatives went to Goose Green Park to take part in a climate change march joining St John's and St Clement's School's Eco School.

Keep appreciating our environment!

Year 5 had a special visit from Dr. Lizzie this week. As part of their learning on the human life cycle, she spoke to them about how babies grow in the womb during each trimester of pregnancy. She explained the amazing changes that happen as a baby develops before birth. Dr. Lizzie also brought along her 8-month-old son, baby Theo, and they had the chance to see some of the exciting milestones he has reached, like sitting up on his own, rolling, eating solid foods, and responding to people around him. They even got to look at baby items like bottles and formula, which helped them understand how babies are cared for after they’re born. It was a fascinating and fun learning experience!
