Friday 4th October 2024

Dear Families,

First up, what a phenomenal event Oktoberfest was this year! Thank you so much to the Friends of Judith Kerr and all the volunteers and helpers who came together to put on such an enjoyable community event. The sun shone for you all! Thank you too, to everyone who came in on Sunday for the clear-up!

Another thank you to all the parents and carers who came in to meet the teachers on Wednesday. The hall was buzzing with conversations about your children's progress and achievements. These conversations are incredibly valuable - do book an appointment with your child's teacher if you didn't manage to make it in.

Schönes Wochenende!

Patrick

Key messages:

Next week: don't miss our Self-Portrait Gallery on Thursday (see below). Thursday will also be our Wear It Yellow Day - see below for more details.

Uniform: please note our school uniform policy. Small stud earrings are permitted, but no other jewellery. Discreet bracelets and necklaces may be worn in class (though not in PE). If your child has an after-school sports club, they are still expected to wear school uniform throughout the day.

After-School Clubs: please ensure you collect your children from after-school clubs at 4:20pm. If children have not been collected this may lead to a fine.

Check out a Ghost Story writing competition here.

A message from our estates team…

Thank you all for your forbearance over the past few weeks while we have been dealing with ongoing issues with the toilets at JKPS. We know that this has caused a great deal of inconvenience for everyone, and sincerely apologise for the disruption.

The Anthem estates team have been working closely with the school’s leaders and site team to address the problems with the toilets since they became apparent last month. Our Regional Operations Manager and the Anthem Estates Manager have acted swiftly both behind the scenes and on site to identify and implement solutions to fix the toilets themselves and avoid prolonged school closure.

The next key stage of this remedial work is a system de-scale, which will be carried on Monday, 7 October. In the meantime, our Caretaker, Mr Alfie, will carry out routine checks and call the contractor immediately if he feels it's building up again.

We hope this goes some way to reassuring you that we are doing all we can to tackle this problem and, where at all possible, minimise further disruption for the JKPS community.

Thank you again for your patience.

WEAR IT YELLOW - THURSDAY 10th OCTOBER

Next week on Thursday 10th October, the school will be raising awareness of 'World Mental Health Day'. This year, we will be raising money for the charity 'Young Minds' who work tirelessly to show children and young people they’re not alone with their mental health. Please bring in £1 and wear something yellow.

Attendance

School attendance is mandatory for all students of compulsory school age. Whilst we understand that it isn't always possible to reach 100% attendance, we are fully committed to ensuring the highest levels of attendance to ensure we enable every student to meet their potential.

Deutschecke

Thursday this week marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Ms Julia led an assembly about it on Thursday and KS2 children also enjoyed learning more about it in their German sessions. Friends Corner

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful Oktoberfest. We were so lucky with the weather 🌞, and there was a lovely atmosphere. A huge thanks to all the teams who worked so hard on the day.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. On the evening of Tuesday October 22 at 7pm, the JKPS pub quiz will be making a return, complete with possibly the world’s only parent-focused German/English spelling contest. Start organising your teams and watch this space for more details.

Don’t miss the next Gardening Day on Saturday October 19 from 11-3pm where we’ll be making sure the garden is a perfect place for hibernation 🦔 and mushrooms 🍄.

There will also be a Pre-loved uniform sale on Thursday 24 Oct after school - we are very well stocked for trousers, skirts, pinafore and polo shirts. Please text Claire in advance if you want to reserve anything - 07730 433 519. We’re also looking for about 60 ‘clip hangers’ to help store the trousers, so please have a look at home if you have any to spare.

And two dates for after half term to get in your diary - The famous Sankt Martin lantern parade on Fri 8 Nov the Winter Fair on Sat 7 Dec.
