Reception Joiners

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted that your child will be joining our school’s Reception team in September, and we are looking forward to getting, or in many cases, continuing to get to know them!  In order to complete our admissions process before your child joins us in September, can you please complete our registration form by clicking on the following link: here; we also require sight of your child’s original birth certificate and proof of address, which can be brought in on the 27th June when we have our welcome meeting.

Starting school should be a happy and exciting time for both your child and for you. We know that you will have lots of questions to ask us and hope the information here will begin to answer at least some of those questions.
We will do our very best to make you and your child feel secure and valued and ready for the start of the new school year. Our aim is to provide your child with the very best education possible, and we hope that you will work in partnership with us, to achieve this aim.

Parents’ and Carers’ Welcome Meeting

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to an initial Reception parent and carer welcome meeting on Monday 27th June. The meeting will be in school from 1:45pm. You will have an opportunity to meet me and the Early Year’s teachers, have a tour of the school and hopefully answer all of your questions.

Transition events

We recognise how important it is for Reception parents to meet the school community; including staff and other families. Therefore, we have organised a picnic/fun and games session at Judith Kerr Primary School for all our new children and their parents/carers on Friday 15th July at 13:45.   This will provide all parents with the opportunity to meet the staff and other families whilst the children play and form friendships. You will also have the opportunity to trial and order uniform on this day.

If you have more sensitive matters that you would need to discuss with the Early Years Lead, you will have the opportunity to arrange a meeting during the picnic.  If you will be attending with your child on the 15th July, please email the office ( so we know to expect you.

Settling In Period

To ensure that your child has the best start, we invite your child to attend one of these stay and play sessions before they join JKPS on a full-time basis. This enables the staff to get to know your child and for your child to feel safe to explore. All children will start on a part-time basis from Monday 5th –Thursday 8th September. Communication will be sent home via email and post about which group your child is in before the end of term. During transition days, the children will have an opportunity to meet all the staff in the Early Years team and work with everyone.

Group 1 - Monday 5th September - 9.00-12:15 (including lunch).

Group 2 - Tuesday 6th September - 9.00-12:15 (including lunch).

Group 3 - Wednesday 7th September – 9.00-12:15 (including lunch).

Group 4 - Thursday 8th September - 9:00-12:15 (including lunch).

Friday 9th September – everybody in for half day 12:15(including lunch)

Then, on Thursday 9th we will send an email home saying which class your child will be in; then all children will then start on a full-time basis on Monday 12th September (8:45-3:15). We will be sending out information about which group your child will be in later in the summer term once all the places have been accepted. At a later date, we will email you stating which group your child will be in.

Finally, we'd like to point you to the page about our new nursery, which is opening in September, should you be interested in sending your child to it.

Looking forward to meeting you all in the week beginning 5th September.

Jo Ryan, Head Teacher And Sarah Meadon, Early Years Lead
